Anyone know whether Reykjavik is a good or bad idea in mid Feb? I have always wanted to go, and aside from the notion of it being a bit expensive when you get there, I have read mixed reports on whether touristy things are generally closed at that time of year, and clearly there is the weather. I don't mind cold at all in fact I want it to be, I just don't want to be snowed in or have the trip cancelled due to weather. I have heard it is a fantastic winter destination, just don't want to get there and not have much to do... or not be able to get there at all!

Probably not quite as bad as you think. Icelandair do lots of good deals, and they'd not big up things like the Northern Lights over the first quarter of the year if there was little chance of you getting there and out and about.

I'd be more tempted by later in spring, but that's more just for more daylight to get out and see the scenery which is a large part of the appeal for me.

It'll still be getting dark pretty damn early up there in Feb!

hours of light are around 9 till 6 so not too bad... temps similar to here

a quick check on http://www.visitreykjavik.is seems to suggest nothing is really closed as such at that time of year...

good news!
