Heh. Pure gloating, nothing more.

"Networking" trip to New York. Virgin Upper flights, Suite at The Gansevoort, car and driver for the entire week. Helicopter to the mountains to ski on the weekends of either side.

With the skiing, this may even beat the Monaco Grand Prix trip of a couple of years ago (sadly not repeated last year).

I love my job. I wish I didn't have a Lady F at the moment, as this would otherwise involve some unbelievably tacky attempts at pulling hot New York fillies (would you like to come in my helicopter etc etc).

I await a hilarious story, filled with plenty of alcohol, attractive women, a bunch of very wealthy London bussiness men and LOTS of fail with great anticipation.

Have a good time HF! thumbup

I was originally a corporate lawyer for a big London firm. I now work for an insurance syndicate at Lloyds, running a practice area for them. So job is partially underwriting risk (although my team do this, mostly), shmoozing reinsurers and brokers, talking at seminars and dealing with the external folk who do our capitalisation/reserving/investments.

very varied job, actually. Very people orientated. Nothing like as well paid as investment banking/top level law, but very decent hours when not travelling, and awesome expenses/jollies, if you like that sort of thing. Which I do, as I don't have a family to miss when away.

One of the reasons I get to do all this stuff is that my boss no longer wants to, as she has children and, despite having a stay-at-home husband, likes being home to put them to bed and hates spending weekends away from her family. (Incidentally, her 430 Scuderia 16M is parked downstairs, proving that you can do well here if you are goodm, which she is, very).

I also do this.

Slomax - I can see some serious failures coming my way. I'll be in NY. Away from Lady F, who is so recent as to not exert a sufficient hold to prevent me from making some drunken effort with a pretty New Yorker. And doubtless failing epically in my mission - again.

Although, last time I went to NY some years ago, the combination of not being gay and having an English public school accent resulted in a truly memorable trip.

I'd slap you silly for that.

If she means that much, why not get rid?

Why was my instinctive internal reaction to this comment "Yours Flashman?" hehe

Too soon to tell. Takes me a while to get into people. In the meantime, having fun with her - unless someone better comes along, in which case I will indeed get rid.

And here I am stuck in 'bum fk' Russia, bks deep in snow surrounded by aggressive hairy drunken Vladimirs who only want to fight as I am a foreigner and they don't really like us.

Where did it all go wrong?

Poor Bobski.

I was in Khazakhstan recently, seeing a client. They made me eat horse at dinner. I prefer New York and Monaco, to be honest.

I'm not jealous.

Work jollies are awesome. My current employer stopped doing them late 2008 (for obvious reasons) and people here are still talking about the old jollies where the sky was the limit, the women were on call, and rental cars were to be crashed.

God I miss those days frown

hehe

Horse isn't too bad actually...

I can see why New York and Monaco may seem better, though the birds are sluttier in Kazakhstan (and, it seems all of the ex-Soviet bloc countries).
