So decided its time to take the VX220 on a driving holiday in France.

When a lad all holidays were to France / Northern Spain with dad driving round the Pyrenees, Alps, etc I have a few roads in the Pyrenees I want to revisit. So that area must be included but what route to get there and back? I will consider either the return or outward journey either by Tunnel or Ferry from Poole to Cherbourg.

I will have the Mrs in the passenger seat so want to keep time in the car not to excessive, best kept to sub 4 hours driving a day I think.. for most days.

You're planning on going for just over a week but not driving more than 3.5 hours a day. Where I go skiing in the alps it's the best part of 10 hours drive from Calais - so it would take you 6 days to get there and back - doesn't leave a lot of time to actually drive in the alps. You might want to think about taking less time to get there and back. We do it over the course of two days but then we also have a 2 year old.

Yes, did a route using google maps and the only way I could get it to work out ok was do two days where I put in 5 hrs driving. Its been a good 20 years since going with my parents.. I guess the memory of empty straight fast roads is just a memory these days? I was thinking along the lines of get on toll road for some bits and try and dispatch a couple of hundred miles at a go by sitting at 85ish..?

Absolutely fking outstanding. Knocks the Alps into a cocked hat.
Found this above suggestion as roads to do in the Pyreness.

I've booked train & ferry now train out on Saturday at 08:50, ferry home from Cherbourg to Poole next Saturday at 11:30.

Any suggestions of other roads to take in? Realise I'll be doing some longer stintson some days.

Hum, all looks like epic amounts of time behind the wheel if going off main roads. Can someone comment on if rural roads are slow as google maps would suggest or can you actually make good pace? Keep in mind i'm in a fast sports car :-)

Otherwise it's looking like sacking off the Pyrenees and going for the Central Massif instead - which actually maybe a good move as it's supposed to be a lot quieter.
