Avoiding the Royal Wedding
Discussion
We'd like to go away for the Royal Wedding / Bank Holiday weekend. Somewhere warm & 4 + stars would be good, and no more than 2 - 3 hrs flying time from London, or somewhere remote ish in the UK no further than Cornwall would also work. Most importantly it has to be child, chav & OAP free and have very good coffee. Budget is around £300 - £350 each, or £600 total

Chav free for £300 thats going to be a bit difficult especially if you want to fly. Thats a bit of a Chavvy budget.....Edited by Collectingbrass on Tuesday 18th January 16:03
Cheap flight to Southern Spain (classified as a desert) and a deal in one of the hotels down there then. Mallorca also has early season deals and I went in April in 2009 and had fab weather although it had rained the week before and did really cloud over just as we left.
Coincidence? Yes.
Canaries will be warmer but pricier.
I find it easier (for Spain) to hawk round the cheap flights and book the cheapest destination (usually Barcelona or Murcia) and then use the hire car to drive where I want to go up to about 200km. It's quite nice driving the scenic routes providing the flight times are reasonable though more tolls on the north east coast of Spain as opposed to the south whose non-toll roads are far faster and quieter.
My guess is that the travel agents will wise up to this very quickly and put prices up by the way.

I will be going out driving for the day, up to the coast... the roads will be empty hopefully
Best driving day I ever has was Princess Diana's funeral
