I did AD to Muscat 20 years ago for work, after leaving AD it is all the same, you are doing this for pleasure? The villiges are all the same, it is all the same, do a afternone drive from AD go back to the hotel and save your money.
Going throught the mountains from Dubei to Muscat is Ok but going down the coast is a waste of time.

Oman is awesome. We have a house there so Im a little biased
There are loads of great places to visit, b s few related books such as Off-road Oman. You'll need a 4x4 to access some places but generally if you're into the real world then you'll probably love it.
Look up Jebel Shams, Jebel Akhdar, Masirah Island, Sur, Nizwa, Ras Al Jinz, loads of cool wadis, Muscat is a nice place too - so not Dubai. You can drive down to Salalah which is nice too.
Btw for a week you'll want to skip the coast and just see the mountains.

I have worked in Oman and it is a lovely place. Brace yourself for the climate it is like a sauna when outside!
Get used to seeing guys walking around holding hands - bizzare. They run a very different culture to us!
If you go out for a meal get used to not being able to enjoy alcohol with it.
We stayed in a lovely hotel on the beach. It had a english bar, the only place we could drink. I can find out the details if you are still looking?
Overall i enjoyed it, the people are freindly, just respect the way of life they lead.

It won't be too hot in April. Low to mid 30s and probably not humid.Get used to seeing guys walking around holding hands - bizzare. They run a very different culture to us!

Oman is the same as Abu Dhabi or Dubai when it comes to alcohol. Lots of opportunities in hotel restaurants.
