Those lovely people at BA - strikes and flights
Discussion
Morning chaps/chapesses.
I'm supposed to be flying back to the mother country in April from Singapore. As usual, BA are the cheapest direct flights from Changi to Heathrow. I would like to fly on Thursday 21st April, but I saw on the news that the Union have voted for another round of strike action, although no dates have been announced.
I've checked with my travel insurance - they will cover me for any out of pocket expenses for anything I have put deposits down on, or prepaid, in the UK, but not for me rebooking to another airline. Now, the BA website says that in the event of another strike, they still aim to operate 100% of long haul flights from Heathrow. I wasn't really following the strikes last time, so can't recall quite what happened - should I feel safe enough booking the flight with BA to save £100, or should I look to book with Qantas instead (who thanks to codesharing will be operating my BA flight back to Singapore).
I'm in a bit of a pickle, so would appreciate any thoughts on this? (Changing flight dates isn't much of an option as the missus gets limited holiday time so we are keen to use the easter and may bank holidays).
TIA

Personally, I'd avoid BA like the plague. Their service is dire and their employees seem to want to bring the company down. £100 is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Probably best to.Looking at flights to Sydney for end of June. Loads of BA points to use, but think I'll use Singapore or Emirates this time round. Knowing that Qantas use BA codeshare/staff, it's too risky to go with either I'm afraid.
last time around i think BA did do most of their long haul - definately not all.
the fact they do have a codeshare i do think you would get transferred to a few other airlines they are affiliated with however...
i'd book with quantas - pay a few extra quid just to ahve that peace of mind that its going to go ahead no matter what and you dont have to keep following the news about this.
these strikes are so incredibly damaging to BA the unions just cant estimate. we've got people already calling to see if they can change from thier BA flight to something else.

I know they are a bit rubbish, but they are cheap, I don't have enough miles to get a good price on SIA, and don't want to stop at Dubai with Emirates, as I have a 2 hour drive in a hire car when I get to the UK...Looks like I'll be flying with Qantas then...
