The savings (£250)to fly into LA rather than Vegas is tempting me to take this option and drive to Vegas.

Its about 300 miles so its no more than driving to the lake district from down south.

just thought had anybody done it or should I simply cough up the cash?

If you go at the wrong time (Fri night for example) the queues into Vegas can be bad.
That's the problem - I need to go on a Friday - hoping to getaway mid afternoon

Hmm.

Go to LA, rent a Mustang, Camaro or Challenger, drive to Vegas. I'm not seeing how this could be considered negative in any way. Most of the rental companies will have the V8s if you ring them a bit ahead.

If you don't fancy the 4-6hour drive to Vegas plus the extra costs of hiring.. flying is another option.
Southwest charge around $29 - $69 to go from LAX to LAS.

I think they have flights every two hours?

Just checked rates for Friday - $89-99 depending on what month you are going.

Yup. 40 minute or so flight.

Last 2 times I've flown LAX -> LAS then drove on the way back. Fed up of the drive now (if you take the road via Barstow it's boring-ish, although In n Out burger in Barstow is a good lunch stop) so will fly both legs next time.

Yup, I'd take the internal flight option too nowadays..... especially given the Friday travel situation, which can make the drive not fun at all, although it's better now than it used to be before they upgraded the I.15

Have you considered flying into Phoenix, and then up to Vegas?
We are doing this at the end of June

That's a much nicer drive.....especially if you have the extra time to do it in..... e.g going via Oak Creak Canyon, Sedona etc smile
