I have 10 days to kill at the end of March and the other half and I fancy Thailand for a break. I've been twice before and love the place -went to Koh Samui in 97 and quite like the idea of flying direct and finding somewhere to stay when we arrive.

I'm sure it's changed a lot since then...I stayed at Chewang but fancy somewhere a little quieter...Bo Phut?

Anyone know of any safe/clean/friendly beach huts? Circa $100 a night ish...should not need to be anymore for what we want.

100 US$ a night is aboyt 2 times what I pay for a hotel in Samui, with brekfwast for two. You can get beach huts for 20US a night, never done it at Samui, but got huts in Krabbie and Trang for 20,
Just turn up and book, I go to Sumui on the bike some times, and I just get the ferry and book a hotel when I arrive, never had aproblem.
OF course it is easier when I have transport, but you can hire ataxi to take you around.

Been here a few years ago:
The Waterfront

Would highly recommend it. It was very well priced. The staff were very accommodating and very good. The owner's are "Old school" English. The guy is an ex insurance sales man and the wife a stewardess. Have heard that their daughter is a bit of a handful but rather a looker.

The bar is open all night and a lot of their guests are repeat visitors. They even picked us up (and drop us off) from the airport and give us a tour of the area so that we knew where everything was.

Its right on the waterfront (obviously) but the beach directly in front of it is not "perfect". However it is fine a 100 feet to the left of it. That said its very pleasant for a post dinner stroll with the other half.

Would go back there at a drop of a hat if the opportunity arose.

Finally, their rating on Trip Advisor is consistently high.

What do you mean by beach hut?

We stayed at the Bo Phut Resort and Spa last summer and loved it. We had a private pool villa, which was quite pricey, but I think the garden villas are a lot more reasonable. It was ideally located close to the Fisherman's Village, but far enough away that the beach was really quiet.

Samui has changed enormously in the ten years I've been visiting. All of the cheap resorts on Bo Put were flattened, with flashy resorts erected in their place.

I stayed at a nice resort last Autumn on Silver Beach; a small, relatively quiet beach;

It was maybe 3-3500b a night, so on budget. They even hire out cars. I had a twin-cab Hilux for 1500b a day.

You'll be fine finding somewhere to stay in March.
April and Easter - different story.
Bo Phut is good, also consider Choengmon Beach.
Change a plenty in the last 10-15 years. In chaweng, you can choose between Starbucks, Pizza Hut, McD's and shop at Tesco. Hmmm.
Top of the island still good though.

Thanks all, I actually meant end of April (making the most of the royal wedding!), so maybe I am better off booking.

Don't really want a hotel/resort..a tidy hut would be fine and remind me of my trip there last time.

I did find the Waterfront online already and read the reviews which sing it praises, so thanks for the tip..I will drop them an email..

Thanks again!

We stayed there many years ago and the beach was lovely.
It looks like the resort has been upgraded since we stayed though.
There was a fantastic fish restaurant that you climbed up stairs from the beach to get to. I wonder if it's still there?

Dont forget about Songkran (13/14 April).
Rates will rocket in most places over these dates. Try to arrive after this, when rates drop.
Also, note that the Easter hols for many, end on 24th April, so there may still be pressure on rates and availability.
