As the title says, off to Runaway Bay next week for 2 weeks on an all-inclusive, do I need to take any Jamaican currency, or am I better off just using US Currency? The hotel operate a no tipping service, so any monies would be spent outside the hotel.

Thanks

Tony

Most shops seem to favour the US Dollar but maybe get some jamaican for tips etc. Couple of hints, buy some rum in a "Locals style" off licence and avoid the touristy shops, better choice and value. Get into the blue mountains and try the coffee. Jamaica is a beautiful place to tour.

Thanks for that, TY4C. Really looking forward to the trip. Our first time heading west, we have only ever gone to the far east before.

Where are you going mate? I went to Negril last year to get married. Was simply amazing. Had the time of.my life with the wife, was simply brilliant.

Most places prefer American, always haggle!

Since you've been, you'll know how much you'll be offered 'smoke laugh

Try to take some organised tours with reputable companies, the eatalong tour into the blue mountains and down to Kingston, try to get to Firefly, in a lovely location on the coast. Take in some reggae with the locals, sunset at Ricks cafe, and eat at roadside diners made out of oildrums, superb. Should be good weather this time of year.

From what I remember as its several years since we stayed at Runaway Bay it’s a small place with not a great deal locally to do outside the hotel. Ochio was about 20 min mini bus trip away which is where we went to get out of the hotel complex. Dunns river falls is a good fun day out we tag this with an evening boat trip which basically involved drinking rum punch.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The plan is to do a few day trips, but if there is not a lot outside the hotel, then it will stop the wife from buying tat every day! hehe I think our hotel is next door to what used to be Hedonism III up on the North Coast.

I'd second Ricks, and if you are close to Ocho, pop in and climb Dunns River Falls.
