How much to upgrade to premium economy with BA?
Discussion
Just looking to see if anyone has any idea of the cost to upgrade from economy to world traveller plus with BA? It won't let me do it online and I can't get through on the phone. Flight is Garwick to Orlando if that makes any difference. Even just a rough idea would be good as I have no idea at all.
I upgraded in a flight from Gatwick to barbados a few years ago. I remember it being around £200 each. It wasn't worth it though, we specifically requested seats next to a window (the Mrs is not a good flyer) told we were going to get them and got onto the plane to find seats in the middle row!
Based on this and their subsequent failure to deal with our complaint I would never fly BA again.

Premium economy on BA isn't worth the extra money. Virgin, however, is a different story and worth every penny.
Agree
The other thing to watch with Virgin if flying at peak times is the pricing is random - my daughter is going to Orlando in August and someone on a Disney forum advised her to check all combinatios of seat class - and it turned out that choosing PE for the return made the trip cheaper than economy both ways.
BA, a slightly bigger seat and not a lot else.
Virgin, different check in, early boarding and exiting, MUCH bigger seats, champagne, less passengers per cabin crew.
Having used both airlines and classes of travel to West Coast America several times I would either go BA standard economy, if I could be arsed to use them again, or Virgin premium.

My 2c worth. I coughed up £500 each for two of us to upgrade to BA WTP - LHR/BANGOK/LHR
Waste of money.
Same food as economy.
Same broken-down infight entertainment.
Same Hattie Jaques head matrons.
Same crappy service.
About two inches extra seat pitch and two seats abreast. That's it.
Only upgrade worth paying for is Virgin Economy to Virgin PE.

We upgraded to BA Premium Economy on an overnight flight to Johannesburg a coiple of years ago, and I was quite impressed. From recollection we paid around £200 per person which got us:
Larger, more comfortable seats (which were in rows of 2, rather than 3) which I think is an advantage on an overnight flight as you don't wake anyone up (or get woken up by someone else) going to stretch your legs etc.
We felt the food was also very good (for airline food), but am not sure whether this was any different to the standard economy class food on that flight.
I've never flown with Virgin, so can't compare the two!

All you had to do (assuming you booked online) was to go back to BA site, and check prices, easy peasey.I made the error last year of booking on-line with BA Aberdeen - Seattle economy bt error, just phoned through, and changed it to Premiem Economy, sorted.

I used to travel WTP to the States a few times a year on business, until I booked a flight at short notice, and could only get a standard economy seat.
After that, I never again booked WTP and, as a (back then) BA Gold card holder, have managed to completely bemuse their check-in staff by politely refusing to be upgraded!
Am I the only person who finds the WTP seat the most uncomfortable instrument of torture ever devised by man? The fact that it is harder than a wooden bench is bad enough, but the little plastic rest for the tray digs into my thigh whatever position I adopt!
I found the standard economy seats to be infinitely more comfortable, and they had plenty of room, 5'10" and 18 stone notwithstanding!!
The only benefit I can see to WTP is, assuming you are a Gold card holder, the reasonably decent odds of being upgraded to Business class, at which point you really will be properly comfortable.

I suffer from the same problem - I always used to get the exit seats on SAA flights to Joburg. Those narrow seats due to the table really hurt! After that, I never again booked WTP and, as a (back then) BA Gold card holder, have managed to completely bemuse their check-in staff by politely refusing to be upgraded!

However, Virgin PE seats are the danglies.
