Ok, maybe tis in the wrong section, but as more may people have visited China on Holiday I'd though I's start here.

Son (now out of Uni) wants to go teach English in China for 6 months

Any recommendations where to find info - living conditions, cost of living, etiquette, British ex-pat community stuff etc

Thanks

I would suggest he reads the book 'River Town' by Peter Hessler. It's an account of his 2 years teaching English as a Foreign language in the town of Fuling on the Yangtze River in the late 1990s. You can get it from Amazon for less than £10.

I had thought about TEFL in China last year, but it was suggested I read this book before I went.

There's a thread about a year ago on this subject - a PHer teaches in Korea IIRC - do a search for TEFL.

If China could be a bit hardcore for you, maybe Hong Kong could be OK. the Englsh Schools Foundation (ESF) may be worth a look, they base their curriculum on the english one I believe.

thes sites, maye be useful

www.eslbase.com/schools/hong-kong
www.esf.edu.hk/

I spent almost 10 years there, although not as a teacher, but its a lively place and a good place to base yourself while still being close to many other interesting countries.
