Just got an email from BA asking me to check my booking and I have just noticed that to upgrade to World Traveller Plus is now only £155, when it was £857 last week.

This is returning on a flight from New York at 22.50. Is it worth it or should I just stay in the back and try to sleep.

Just amazed that a bit of extra legroom can be £857 on top of my economy ticket. Surely that is getting into Business Class territory.

Question as the last longish haul journey I did were numerous flights to Saudi in the late 90s in 1st, Business and Cattle. Kids since then so short hops only but this is a solo trip.

Cheers.

Are you going in the school holidays, if so then I would be tempted to go for it?

No, going next week then back the week after. Week night at 10 pm-ish from NY.

Depends how tall you are, seat pitch is an extra 7" and it's an inch or so wider. Also reclines a little more than a Traveller seat due to the extra space between rows.

They are comfy and probably worth the £155 (one way fee I guess?) but no way worth £800+ extra!

Cheers, I'm just off 6 ft but was more interested in the service, ie wining and dining.

http://www.inthesaddle.com/british_airways.aspx gives you a good idea of the extra space.

If you're tall - go Traveler Plus

Ah, sorry. Thought you just wanted to sleep.

I'm pretty sure you get much the same food and drink as you do down the back end, haven't been in WT+ for a while as a passenger. If it's purely on the food and drink i'd definitely not spend the extra money though.

Cheers. Might pay the £30 for one of the twin seats in the back and hope that no one gets seated next to me then free booze n'food plus chance of a spare seat.

Can't sleep unless I'm in a bed. laugh

I got a free upgrade once from cattle to WTP.

Well worth it for £150. Would never pay an extra £800 though.

I think the service is business service on BA? Seems to be on Virgin.

On Virgin my experience of PE is great seats, champagne on boarding, and the rest of the service was very economy, ie economy food on a slighter bigger tray wink

Certainly worth it for that money, I'm a bit jealous in fact that you're getting it so cheap. What is BA's policy regarding this? Do they drop the price drastically for upgrades if it's near the date and business/first hasn't filled up?

Certainly worth it for that much. Also, as WT+ is quite small if there's any overselling you're in with a 1 in 25 or so chance of an upgrade to Club World. Not sure if you have Executive Club status but even a blue card will put you ahead of those without in the upgrade list.

Finally it may be worth paying to reserve a seat as some are better than others.

Still toying with this as it's such a late flight. I'd imagine there would be no dinner and just brekky.

I'd be surprised if that is the case. Usually a flight of that length is 2 meals

Well dithering has seen the upgrade price drop from £155 to £124 today. To think it was £857 a week ago.

What do we reckon, lower? laugh

That's probably the best you'll get, and if they're that desperate the flight is probably oversold which helps your upgrade chances! Be sure to check in online as close to T-24 hours as possible for the best chance (and the best seat options).
