Evening all! After a few rum and cokes myself and Mrs jimmyt have decided we would like to go to Dublin for a few days. Looking at flights etc we will probably be travelling out on a Sunday and returning back home on the following Tuesday. Can anyone recommend a good central hotel we can stay in? We have seen some good reviews for the Morgans hotel if anyone knows it? As long as the shops are near by for the missus and I can get in the guiness factory for a couple of hours we will both be happy! Not sure if what I have written makes any sense, I completely blame captain Morgan for any spelling and grammatical errors! Cheers!

Only one I've stayed at is the Temple Bar Hotel (which, strangley enough, is right in the middle of Temple Bar), which was ok. No idea on cost as it was a work do.

I've never stayed here because I live just down the road but it does come highly recommended by friends. You can't get much more central.

I always stay at the School House. http://www.schoolhousehotel.com/

Very friendly, convenient and not mainstream (and has got a lot cheaper over the last 18 months..)

For cheap and cheerful and within walking distance to Temple Bar and the Guiness factory check out the Jurys Inn Christchurch.

Don't expect too much from the room but as location goes its a good one.

I lived there for a few years, live 100 miles up the road and am there quite often. What type of break are you looking for? Cheap and cheerful? Relaxing? spa etc?

Check out The Morrison. Right on the river, across the river from temple bar/grafton st etc. I've stayed there a few times. Designer/modern. Great restaurant.

Higher end go for The Westin.

Other options are Jurys as stated. Beside it is The Clarion (IFSC, not airport!). Quite nice. If staying there (or jurys) I recommend going to the harbourmaster pub - best chicken wings around!

Bit further out (still on LUAS though) is Gibson Hotel. Just opened

Temple bar is noisy, and to be honest not that great. Stay outside it, and by all means visit.

Remember it's bloody expensive! Drop me a line if you want anything specific answered/recommendations

Fair point, OP if you intend sleeping on the street then stay away from O'connel street.

The U2 hotel the Morisson, or the Fitzwilliam (top of Grafton street, opposite St. Stephens Green.

The Guinness brewery is not in a great location, and I would not recommend walking from the centre of the city to the brewery.

The Davenport is a 15 minute walk from the centre of the city.

Stick to the south side (Grafton street)

Stay away from O'Connell street after dark.

At the very high end the Merrion is simply superb. I stayed there several times. On the other hand the Hilton is just south of the city centre,(no character but clean and cheap) and the Luas train is right outside. Three minutes to St Stephen's Green and Grafton Street. I used in in August and it worked very well.

Superb, yes, but 300 a night, not so superb unless you like using fifties to light your Cubans.

The Westin is nice, and right beside Trinners, lovely scones in the arvo.

With the exception of the Hilton, you can't go wrong with the hotels mentioned.

Make sure you visit the Unicorn!
