Just booked 4 flights return Luton to Tenerife and we were lucky enough to get outbound flights without tax, the tickets came to a reasonable £530 with one suitcase. Tried to avoid the booking charge of £40 by using a euro prepay card and I got a rate of 1.143 euro which was about the going rate. However Ryanair whilst avoiding the charge gave me a conversion rate of 1.24 when I paid in euro! So instead of paying £40 booking fee I paid about £46 in currency conversion.

I wouldn't mind too much if they were up front, but there was no information about the exchange rate until you had paid. I guess gullible is my middle name. Note to self, only use sterling prepay mastercard, and make sure you have one when you need to book!

Still I can't complain as the in laws have given us points for their timeshare which is of a decent quality, and with a hire car the total cost for the four of us will be less than £700 self catering which I think is not too bad for the Easter holidays.

Funny I should just read this. Not 30 mins ago I was about to book flights to spain in June on Ryanair, got frustated by the £10 each we were going to have to pay to pay (if you see what I mean!). Sod this, went to BA, and got very similar flight times for £20 more, not each, on the total of 5 people. Chuffed, well worth it to be a bit more relaxed getting on etc (kids in tow) and drinks too.

Without wanting to sound rude, why do it then? Is it really worth the jumping through hoops, the hassle, and the sh'te service from start to finish just to save a few £££?

Only way we can afford to go on holiday this Easter if we want to go abroad to be honest. Everyone else was about double the price, just over a grand rather than £500. Gives me enough to hire a car and a few decent meals plus spends. And no you didn't sound rude smile

Maybe, but Ryanair aren't the only ones flying that route - Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson will all sell you tickets too!

My parents live in Spain so I'm regularly checking flights for them and us and I will never use Ryanair again. Overpriced and terrible service IMHO.

Have just started using Monarch and very happy with their service so far. Also hoping the BA/Iberia merger brings mire options in.

Skyscanner, kelkoo, and expedia are pretty good. I also find checking the airport, you want to fly from, for who flies where gives options you may not have considered.

My one resolute rule in life is that I will never fly RyanAir. I nearly had to when we had a works do in Ireland, but I made my own arrangements and travelled separately. They were delayed 3 hrs each way.

I've used them twice.
- Once to/from Dublin, and the landing at Dublin was the worst I've encountered...despite it not actually being that bad weather.
- The second was to/from Cracow (stag do) - we were all hungover and sleep-deprived on the morning flight back yet the seats didn't recline and didn't have any pockets, so we were forced to sit bolt-upright nursing books, water etc. on our laps for 4 hours. I am NEVER doing that again.

Quiet! At least we won't be hungover! Wish me luck, and yes I am a cheapskate.
