As the title says really. Im thinking of going there for a 4 night break and just need some recommendations for a nice 4-5 star hotel.
In giving you a recommendation of a nice hotel in Edinburgh, a person would be admitting to the PH masses that they have been there...........The Sheraton has a superb spa but it's abit characterless. The Caledonian just down the road has more character even tho it's a Hilton, or the Balmoral as already suggested.
there's rooms at the Witchery which are good - a lot depends on whether its a romantic weekend or a couple of nights with the boys!!

one more thought - a little OT as not in Edinburgh but 60 miles away, but I have also stayed at and can recommend the Dunkeld Hilton http://www.hilton.co.uk/dunkeld
280 acres estate to wander around, fishing, even an offroad driving course!

The Glass House is meant to be good.
Another vote for this. If you can push to a junior suite then do it. Big room and massive balcony plus the honesty bar was just outside the room as well. Also it's right near the centre so great location. Also the Witchery. I've only eaten there but have wanted to stay in one of their rooms for a while. This is right by the castle so another great location.

Radisson Blu, or the Malmaison in Leith.
I've stayed in the Radisson, and it was OK, plus being on the Royal Mile it's fairly central. If you can't walk to where you need to get to from there, you are in a bad way. Leith, on the other hand, is Taxis both ways. The Balmoral is the Dog's Whatsits, but a mortgage might be required to pay the bill..................Where I stayed, it was very nice and withing walking distance of down town.

If it's not a city centre hotel you are after the Prestonfield is nice.
There are several 'boutique' hotels in the centre, around George Street, (Tigerlilly, Ricks, Le Monde et al) but none have spa/pool facilities if you want that.
Bigger ones like the Sheraton, Caley Hilton, Balmoral etc have full spa facilities and are very central.
