Morning all -

I will be in Tokyo in a couple of weeks for work, but have 24hrs free at the end before I fly home.
What should I do with myself? on this Friday/Saturday.

I will be staying at the Intercontinental which has a Michelin-starred restaurant, but I don't think I can afford to eat in it !!

I love the Japanese food and I really ought to by shares in Wagamama, averaging as I have been, two visits/week to my local restaurant ! So I would like to eat somewhere authentic and good for £30 - £50

As much as I would happily gorge myself for the whole time I want to see some sights to - What should I do, where should I go? Open to pretty much anything at this stage...

Cheers in advance - Nico.

Get ready for a looooong night - there is no drinking up time here and it really is a 24 hour city.

You need to get a temple in so either Asakusa or Meiji Jingu at Yoyogi
Shopping: if you are into electronics and a whole pile of weird stuff then a trip to Akihabara is a must, if not then the neon at either Shinjuku or Ginza
Food: it is all good! What are you interested in eating?

The Intercon is walking distance from Roppongi for some night-time fun and games although Shibuya and Shinjuku have their attractions too wink

Depending on dates, there could be a couple of us up for beers that night if you are interested.

Thank you both - Sorry for the delayed reply, I've been via Abu Dhabi and Dubai working on cars on the way here, and now in Kuala Lumpur before heading to Thailand for a break to meet Jackleman off here.

I will be flying overnight from KL to Narita on the 15th, so arriving very early on Wednesday the 16th of March and working that day and Thursday. I'll be free Thursday night but probably completely done-in by then, so more likely the Friday 18 day/evening, before flying home overnight Saturday.

Would great to meet a couple of PHers for a couple of local beers!

Cheers!

Nico

As others have said, get yourself over to either Meiji Jingu in Shinjuku or Asakusa for some temple action. Meiji Jingu is much more peaceful than Asakusa, which is usually crowded, but offers a fairly quintessential Japanese locale, especially if you've only got 24 hours to yourself.

Make sure you cross "Scramble Crossing" in Shibuya, which is often shown in movies.

Visit Tokyo Tower in Roppongi during the evening for a nice view of all the lights etc, or a low budget (free) version is the Tokyo Metropolitan Building in Shinjuku.

Akihabara is pretty cool for electronics if you fancy some new gadgets etc, though prices are cheaper elsewhere.

Food is generally of a very high quality and reasonably priced too. A lot of the dishes you eat in Wagamama can probably be had for £5 - £6 tops. Booze can be quite dear, though "nomihodai" or all you can drink bars exist if you've got a thirst on.

Interesting. What work, what cars? Am in Dubai and write about 'em. You here for the racing?

Yes. The whole of Japan hasn't been destroyed, despite the Sky coverage. Whilst not wishing underestimate the magnitude of this disaster, it hasn't destroyed the whole place.

I am currently in Nareta waiting to get a flight out in an hour. South of Tokyo everything seems ok, but even now, things have not settled, we just had a tremor about 30minutes ago that moved things around a bit. The nucular problems are something else though.

Hello All.

I heard on Saturday morning that BMW have pulled everyone out of Japan and even parts of eastern China...

Needless to say I was ordered not to go, not even given a choice - but I prefer not to glow in the dark... I flew home from Kuala Lumpur last night.

I hope to God this doesn't get any worse for those people though something tells me that reactor situation is a bloody long way from being under control....

Oh, and I was working in Abu Dhabi for the Rolls-Royce dealer there, and in Malaysia for the Sultan.

Japan was supposed to visiting the VDC and the dealers in Tokyo and Yokohama.

Thanks for the offer though Glen and others - shame I missed out but what do I matter at a time like this....

Cheers
