Visiting Canada
Discussion
It is almost as simple as that, I believe you are allowed to stay six months. You would probably have to prove to the immigration person that you are there for a holiday and have the means to support yourself for the length of time you are there. The first time I traveled into Toronto by myself I obviously didn't convince the first official I was there for a holiday as I ended up having to go into the area in the back and answer a few more questions and show my return ticket and hotel bookings.

Proving to the immigration official, is that something you do when you land in Canada? What I'm asking, is do I need to do any paper work before hand. How do you prove you have funds to support yourself? Bank statements? Do you need a return ticket home? Thats something I intend to buy when I have satisfied myself.
Book a fully flexible ticket and you should be able to change your return date free of charge. If you book online you will get an eticket, all you need to have is the proof of the return portion. You can then go online the night before you fly back and checkin/print your ticket. You have to fill out a small form on the plane, mostly this is for the customs side of things.
I was a bit naive when I first went as I told the immigration official that I was meeting a girl for the first time who I met on the internet. They still let me in eventually
now I am married to her I don't have the same problems.

Thats really awesome (the ticket, and the girl!).I was a bit naive when I first went as I told the immigration official that I was meeting a girl for the first time who I met on the internet. They still let me in eventually

Boo, that means I need to have a specific return date. I like to "take things as they come", it also means I have to look after my return ticket for the length of my stay.
As others have mentioned, you'll probablay have an eticket, but you're going to have to look after your passport and other valuables anyway. How long are you thinking of staying for? Your questions seem puzzling to normal travellers, but if you give any immigration official a hint of vagueness about leaving then expect the 3rd degree.

I like back packing, could make 4 weeks of it, could make 4 months - depends how much I like the country. Perhaps if I have an E-ticket and could claim to be staying only 2 weeks, then just change the ticket once past officials. How long are you thinking of staying for?
