Me and the OH are planning a trip to Vancouver then California in May. We have 19 days.

We plan to fly to Vancouver and spend 9 or 10 days seeing the region (prob by car) then fly to SF for a further 8 or 9 days in California before departing for home from LA.

Realistically, can one fill the time in Vancouver/BC? I know California well enough but I don't know what possibilites are in and around Vancouver. Should we be spending signifiacntly more time in one area instead of the other?
Any must see places to visit or stay?

Any advice is gratefully appreciated.

Much depends on what you like to do, I guess.

What you could do is make it a road trip, take a ferry to vancouver island, drive down the island to nanaimo, hop on another ferry to port angeles, then take in the olympic peninsula, then keep heading towards califonia

There are a lot of threads on here about BC/Vancouver. Have a quick search smile

You can easily do Vancouver Island and Whistler though.

Lots to do in Van; drive to Whistler the long way (coming at it from the North, through Lilloet and Pemberton, just don't cook the brakes coming down the Duffey Lake Road. Joffrey Lakes are supposed to be spectacular). Foat plane from Vancouver to Victoria, drive over to Tofino; lots of great beaches north of Victoria on the east side of V Island; also whale watching trips from the harbour at Victoria.

Tons to do - what are your interests?

If you're outdoorsy you could easily spend a week on Vancouver Is. and the other islands, from what we researched. Add-in Vancouver and Whistler and there's potentially 2 weeks to pick from...

Thanks for all the responses. Have since realised my question has been asked before(should have known better really hehe) and some excellent advice is to be found in addition to sugestions in this thread. Seems like I won't have a problem filling the time at all! Plan will be to see as much as many places and sights in Vancouver region using boat, plane, train and bike for 9 days, then to fly to SF where we'll hire a nice car and see CA for 9 days.

If you are keen on Quad biking, you'll find all manor of tours available for all levels of rider. From 2 hour rides to 10 day tours around BC. If you're lucky you'll see a Grizzly Bear; if you're unlucky he'll find you.

Spectacular country and scenery and a good way to spend a day or two....

Definitely drive up to Whistler.....a great drive.
