Anyone had any experience of this holiday scheme "timeshare"?

Don't do it - simple! Google them. You will find some reasonable press but also some horror stories.

A family friend has been involved with them previously and it cost them a lot of money and a lot of hassle.

Avoid...they called me yesterday, after stupidly I spoke with someone at Tenerife airport in Feb, and entered a 'ahem' competition, tell em your unemployed and they will update their records !

Maybe 25 years ago a good friend entered a raffle and won a Club LaCosta timeshare near Fuengirola, Spain, at 1/3 it's price. Then of course the amount he paid was modest. He's used it ever since and I've been there too on a number of occasions. It's been regularly maintained and renovated and a few years ago an additional bathroom was put in. Friend has not had any problems with the organisation, except that they continually badger him to move up to larger more modern and bigger accomodation at a substantial price, of course. And they offer him a poor deal on his current accomodation.

The simple answer is go into any deal with any time share with eyes wide open, and the very first questions are: how do I get out of the dealand what's the annual service charge?
