St Lucia - Sandals Grande St Lucian
Discussion
Is that the one on the North of the Island? Very family orientated I understand so great if you're going with kids. We stayed at the Windjammer Landing just round the coast and it was great, mind you it was September time, the place was only half-full (peaceful!
), no screaming kids, the weather fantastic and the food was amazing
Not sure if they still do it, but there was a catamaran tour down the Caribbean coast of the island every few days, with a tour heading inland in-between - it was a fantastic day. Details will be available in your hotel.

Wife and I went to St. Lucia five years ago. The one memorable day trip we did was when we flew to Union Island in a light plane from Castries and then cruised around the islands in a schooner, stopping wherever we wished for a swim etc. Expensive but fab!
Also, we can recommend the Coalpot Restaurant in Castries. I suggest try it for lunch first and then evening another time. Possibly our favourite Caribbean restaurant.

Recently stayed at Halcyon beach resort. You get use of the other two resorts and all their activities, and it is Sandals so definitely no kids. It's really good, the food was excellent as was the service.
Really enjoyed it; not having to deal with tips was a bonus. Though you pay for it in the price anyway. All the staff were really helpful and very friendly.
The weather was a bit overcast for a bit of our stay but it was still really warm.

Stayed at Sandals in Antigua last year, and had a great time.
At that particular branch they did some good deals on Scuba Diving. If you're certified, then you could have 2 free dives a day. If not their try scuba course was US$100, and finished with a fairly shallow dive on a wreck on the reef. They looked after my missus very well. She did a second dive on the same wreck a couple of days later for no extra charge too.
It's worth looking into what they're doing. Also, be ready to hear a lot of "Tonight it's going be a good night" by the Black Eyed Peas from the entertainment. It was a different band each night, but this song featured very heavily with every band! (Made us giggle rather than angry.

We have quite a large party going (Family wedding), and one couple is staying at Halcyon, from the brochure it looks like its a bit smaller and quieter, but more tropical.Really enjoyed it; not having to deal with tips was a bonus. I read about being able to use the 3 resorts, is this actually viable? Is it easy to get to the other resorts? Shuttle Bus? Are they scheduled often? Is it worth it?
Also ive read on tripadvisor that Sandals really stress not to leave the resort (Mainly so you can pay for their excursions i know), but what is it like out of the resort? Anything worth while, or am i going to get relieved of my posh watch and flip flops in some dark alley within the first 15mins.
Cheers for the info so far guys.
Free transport between resorts, so meeting up for meals with the other guests will be easy.
Whether it's worth it; I'm not sure. I have a great time where we were, but what would tempt me would be to try the other restaurants. The food is very good and lots of different styles.
Leaving the resort wasn't a problem for me. St Lucia seems to be friendly, but honestly it's not easy to get about unless on one of their excursions. I recommend a trip into the rain forest.

Got married in there ten years ago.
Full, and I mean full of spoilt yank kids 20-25 years old. They don't drink, go for a knap at 4pm each day, queue for the various restaurants half an hour before they open in the evening and whinge and moan about absolutely everything.
St Lucia runs on 240v 3 pin UK type electric. Sandals runs on 110v US sockets. Say no more.
That said, if you can find an American couple that are able/willing to drink more than two glasses of Piton beer, they are quite entertaining when a bit pissed.
Food is excellent, but you get a side salad with everything. No need to leave the resort actually with all their various restaurants. You will of course, but the yanks don't. They are frightened for their safety. In reality as long as you are sensible and not overtly flashing cash/jewellery you will be fine.
Sandals is strictly no tipping, but IMHO a discreet $10 to a regular barman/waiter ensures a preferential service over the 'can I get some service here? Two non alcohol Tequila Sunrises bartender.'
Go to the sulphur mine and ride the old sailing ship round the island. Fantastic place.

Stayed at Sandals Halcyon some 8 years ago and it was really nice. Having stayed in quite a few Sandals the standards can vary from resort to resort but this was a while ago so don't know what they'd be like now.
I've never had any complaints (apart from the one in Montego Bay that is right next to the airport).
Have a lovely time, roads were quite rough last time I went so we did the Helicopter Transfer back to the airport for the home journey and they fly you right over the Pitons.
