Upto 6 hours from Calais
Discussion
Travelling down to the south of France on holiday, but want a stop off up to about 6 hours from Calais.
We're ending up in Toulouse, but want a 2 night stop over on the way down, so where not in the car for 12 hours over 2 days. Not particularly bothered east of west, or if its a bit out of the way, but don't want to drive more than about 6 hours from Calais.

Just spoken to someone whos suggesting going to Lyon, then onto Millau to do the (fantastic) bridge, then onto Sete for a bit of coastal roads then across. A bit out of the way, but looks great.
If we do that, I'd get straight down to Lyon, for a night then do this route. This route is under 7 hours.

That's what I would do - a fantastic meal in Lyon (the culinery capital of France) followed by the Viaduc de Millau (make sure you go to the visitor centre and drive the Gorges du Tarn). This is a lovely hotel near the bridge alongside the river with a good restaurant: - Not a great website 3* hotel, very modern style with motoring history. If we do that, I'd get straight down to Lyon, for a night then do this route.
