want to take our 12 week yr old on hol - thinking ibiza, majorca or greece

any suggestions - want somewhere funky/hippy rather than apartment block that has a pool and is near the beach

anything to be aware of taking a baby ( bar not going anywhere near san antonio or clubbing till 4am )

thanks

have you looked into a holiday rental house?

We did it in the Loire Valley with what was then a 14month old and was brilliant. Much better than a hotel etc.

I'm pretty sure the baby would have to be 18 to get into the clubs.

Ibiza is probably the place, the clubbers have mostly gone.
More likely to meet your nan than wrecked 18 year old bimbos.
(Plus as the price of food and drink is so high you may be able to afford an evening out).

The dirty looks and comments you'll get from other passengers on the flight for subjecting them to your screaming st machine for a couple of hours with no possible escape.

I really don't understand why people take babies on holidays like that - and would happily pay extra for flights where kids weren't allowed.

Have a look into Portinatx in Ibiza - only spent a couple of hours there when we hired a car a few years back - seemed ideal for families, away from the clubs, chilled out and home to a couple of lovely beaches! smile

We've done Greece with a 1 year old and are about to do a month in Canada with a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old. The easiest options as I see it are:
1. Find somewhere quiet that you can be sure to get them to sleep - a tired child= a tired parent = no fun.
2. What are your views on co-sleeping? If staying in a hotel, we tend to get a king room and just corral the kids in the bed at night. Your arrangements may work differently.
3. Self-catered / villas work well - gives you much more flexibility than a hotel or apartment (and they're often cheaper and nearly always quieter).
4. Plan what you're going to do and then half it - you'll get halfway through the holiday and want a lazy day.
5. When they get a bit older, Load favourite tv progs onto an iPhone or similar ( peppa pig and Charlie and Lola works for us). Can be the difference between a relaxing meal and a nightmare if you want to go to a restaurant in an evening
6. Slings / back carriers (depending on age) are far less hassle than pushchairs.
7. You will enjoy a day at the beach, even if you didn't like that sort of thing before you had kids.
8. Hire cars can be very useful

yes Kefalonia is stunning. We have been to Aghia Efimia 3 times & love it because of the scenery & how relaxing it is.

Malta is fantastic for kids, the local culture is very child friendly. Also, lots to do and see (unlike many small islands in the Med off a large mainland). Prices are also still very reasonable for eating out etc.

One of the great things about Southern Europe is that they don't have the same hang ups about kids as you see exhibited on PH, including on this thread. They love to see children in restaurants.

Can't afford a private jet? Bless.

We took 5 month old twins and a 3 year old to Ibiza for a weekend and while it was great some of the beaches are a bit of a slog from the car park.

Also consider Cala Llonga in Ibiza, family friendly........I've been three times now, and will be heading there again this summer.

rolleyes not this again. I'd quite happily pay more for a flight that doesn't allow people who have an over-inflated sense of self-importance on. I thought the dinosaurs died out a long time ago.

Back to the OP, I'd second Portinax in Ibiza, nice place, no charvers a la San An, and not too hot for the little ones.

I don't have children & I couldn't care if they are on the same flight as me. They are human & deserve a holiday just like me. I do however chose a holiday destination where children are at a minimum because I do like to be left alone & not disturbed once relaxing. Children crying on the flight is part of life & so be it. Older children sitting behind me & kicking my chair is a different matter!

Quite right. I do have my children and my attitude is the same. If my wife and I go away for the weekend without the kids, then we of course seek out a no-child-infested place. Even on business, I accept that children cry on planes and I always have. If some little sod kicks my chair though, there'll be trouble.
