Am going out to Hong Kong for waork tomorrow til the end fo the month and will be away from family for Easter. Just found out the company I visit is closed for Easter as we are, so whilst i will work a bit in the hotel, I potentially have between 2 and 4 days free and need soem ideas.

I've been for a week or so before on a couple of occasions, but pretty much stayed on the Island and been to TST, Kowloon Bay etc, shopping. Driven up over the Peak, and been on Star Ferry at night which is pretty cool.

So aim to do some of them things again, but any other ideas for trips or visits?

I am going to be staying in HK I think, it is a company booking and they are a bit anal about where we stay in case of nuclear meltdown, assasination attempts etc.

Macau if you like a gamble.

You can lose a day on Lantau ferry to silvermine then bus down to big buddha.

Happy valley bit of horse racing.

Befriend some at your work to see if anybody has organised a junk trip.

This. Had a great evening when I went back in October, only cost a quid to get in (10HKD).

I've just got back from HK, also having spent a weekend there.
The weather was good a week ago.

Saturday: take a ferry from the central pier, go to Lamma and enjoy the beach, lovely seafood restaurants near the pier on Lamma too. It's only HKD14.50 each way.
Sunday: take the bus to Stanley, market shopping, etc., stop off at one of the lovely beaches along the way, e.g. Aberdeen, Repulse Bay, etc.

Other than that, Wanchaiwarrior covered it for you. wink

ETA: Happy Valley night racing is on Weds., IIRC, but Saturday is open in Sha Tin in the New Territories, if you're that bothered about geegees?

Evening drink at the Oyster Bar at the top of the Sheraton on TST side. Great views over Victoria Harbour.

There are two ferry destinations on Lamma Island.

Yung Shue Wan is the village, which has several bars and many restaurants ranging from Seafood through Indian and Japanese to a very nice organic place.

Sok Kwu Wan is the parade of waterside seafood restaurant, which vary in quality but I've always stuck with Rainbow.

Lo So Shing Beach is also a nice destination.

If you want to kill a day, take a ferry to Yung Shue Wan, hike over to Sok Kwu Wan by foot, feed yourself silly, then walk if off back to YSW.

THIS +1

I had a fantastic day on Lamma last year. Ferry from the central pier to Yung Shue Wan. Strolled through the village then out slightly off the beaten track through what can only be described as a shanty town which was a pretty humbling experience. Then picked up the main track and hiked over to Lo So Shing Beach, had a break there then on to Sok Kwu Wan. I'd guess the hike would take about 2 hours if you don't stop and sight see (which you will!).

Although it's proper path all the way across, it is extremely steep and narrow in places. If it's a sunny day take water and sun cream (though you will pass drinks vendors on the track).

Lamma has a small population and no motor vehicles. It's a fascinating place, great if you love sea food and a real chill out day (but you will be knackered after the walking!).

If you are staying in HK for any length of time get an Octopus card. It's like an Oyster card in London so handy for public transport (including the ferries) but you can also buy low value stuff in shops using it.

Go out for a drink Friday night, start at Wooloomooloo roof top bar Wan Chai, expensive but great view. Then head to Lang Kwai Fong and have fun for the rest of the night. Then on saturday go to Top Deck in Aberdeen and have a nice all you can eat lunch accompanied with all you can drink Champagne to get over the hang over.

shame, you've just missed the HK 7's - a worthy event if you're there at the end of March.

if you fancy a walk on HK island, look up the Dragons Back trail. It only takes a few hours and you pass through bamboo and banana initially on a path up the "mountain" which then becomes an easy stroll down again ending up on the beach from where after a cold beer or three, you can take a bus back.

Well, almost no motor vehicles. The local shop owners/tradesmen can use these little motorised carts that are built on the island, you'd better get out of their way!

Plus the Emergency services use quads and little Suzuki vans.

I dated an ex-pat American for the best part of a year, who lived in Yung Shua Wan and worked in Central. I caught the ferry down from Mainland China pretty much every weekend and hung out on Lamma. It's a very pleasant place to be.

Oh, and do this. Although if I recall correctly, if you use Octopus to buy stuff in Circle K and Seven/11, it actually cost MORE than paying in cash.
