Southwold, Suffolk. Things to do.
Discussion
The Blibs are heading up to Southwold near Lowestoft for the Easter weekend. As usual when we go away, I post a thread asking the PH collective for any tips and hidden treasures in our chosen location.
Have you any recommendations for places to visit and things to do? I've already managed to persuade Mrs Blib to come along to see a mate race at Snetterton for a couple of hours on the Sunday afternoon.
What else is worth visiting or checking out in the area?
Thanks for your help.

When you find yourself in the Adnams shop try some of their vodka and gin, they've got a distillery now as well. The oak aged vodka is lovely.
Oh and pop down to here http://www.richardsonssmokehouse.co.uk/history.htm... and stock up on some smoked bangers. There's a few going on my bbq this weekend.

If you pop over the river to Walberswick, there is a great beach, not sure if its the season yet but crabbing in the creek is always great fun for kids of all ages.
You could head further south to Aldeburgh for fish and chips Both of the places on the high street are the same firm, but the golden galleon usually has shorter queues.
Also in aldebugh there is a small boating pond, with a decent ice cream / coffee shop adjacent

Take a stroll down the pier.
Have a pint and fish n chips in the Nelson
Walk to the Harbour Inn for a pint and fish and chips.
Buy fresh fish in the harbour.
Have a pint in the Crown
Have posh food in Coasters restaurant.
Marvel at the tacky Amber shop
Visit Adnams cookshop - buy wine and beer

Thorpeness is a mile or so along the beach from Aldeburgh, worth visiting. Go boating on the mere, see the House in the Sky, pint at the Dolphin afterwards. We did loads!
Amongst the highlights were several walks along Southwold sea front and the pier. Fish and chips in Aldeburgh, Framlingham Food and Music fair where we tried our hands at archery. We ate sandwiches on Thorpness Quay while watching kids go crabbing. We shopped at a countryesque furniture and homeware retail outlet whos name I've forgotten that used to be a brewery.
Then we went and toured Orford castle and Orford Ness. The recorded guide was fun. We visited the ruins of Leiston Abbey and even managed to shoot over to Snetterton to watch a mate of mine race his Alfa 75 in a club meeting.
The weather was glorious, the scenery beautiful and the locals friendly and oh so helpful. We managed over three hundred miles of "brisk" driving in the county over the two full days that we were there. The back roads are such fun to drive and incredibly empty considering that it was Easter and the weather was so good.
We completely fell in love with the place and have vowed to move up there when e get the opportunity. NOt to the coast. But to the quieter inland areas. The prices for the type of property we would be interested in buying are incredibly affordable. I suppose because the area is not on the commuter lines as such. But are only a couple or three hours from London.
Mrs Blib has a list of villages and as soon as her son sets off to University, we'll be heading up there.
We were quite bowled over, frankly.

My grandparents live across the harbour in Walberswick and I spent large parts of my childhood in Southwold, Walberswick and the surrounding areas and it is beautiful, I'm reminiscing about rockpooling on Walberswick beach and walking to Dunwich now!
Glad you had a good weekend.

All joking aside, some of them put picture books to shame. There was one hamlet that consisted of the classic village green / pub / church / thatch cottage combination that was timeless.
You should be picky when it comes to buying in that aea, avoid leiston/saxmundham areas.
probably safe around woodbridge or further inland eye and fressingfield areas,
train communication to london is excellent from ipswich, I have many friends who commute from woodbridge to london, although in fairness many of them drive to manningtree to get the train
It is a lovely part of the world
