I am off on a driving holiday to Venice in September and would like to know the safest most convenient place to park the car.

It is a toss up between VIP Parking at Tronchetto or Garage San Marco. Both are similar price, wondering if anyone had any experience with either place. Thanks.

I've been to Venice a couple of times. Usually stay in Treviso and go to Venice by train, I remember it's just a fifteen minutes journey or so. Also hotel availability and prices are better.

Generally it's OK but make sure they know your car isn't to be disposed of.

Proably better to park out of Venice somewhere, how long are you staying? You could park somewhere like Punta Sabbioni and then get the vaporetta across to Venice for the day, it only takes 20 mins.

We are staying 4 nights in the centre close to St Marks. Another option is the long stay carpark at Marco Polo Airport and then the bus...

Punta Sabbioni looks promising though I doubt I can book a space there unless I change hotel.

We parked in San Marco for a few days back in 2001 in a 4 year old C-class. I was a bit apprehensive about wedging the car in and then leaving the keys (first proper Euro trip, borrowed car and 5 weeks of belongings, some of which were on the back seat as the boot was full).
It was fine, as I am sure are the other hundreds of thousands of cars that park there each year. I expect that the car park might have improved in the last 10 years.

Thanks in terms of hassle factor this place is currently winning for me but my wife is championing cheapness! (it is not her car though :-)
