Trip of a lifetime....planning starts now
Discussion
Mrs CVM and I have decided we are going to plan a 'trip of a lifetime' around Europe and then one around America.
It will be in a few years, but we are starting to plan/budget now and get ideas of where we will go.
We'd like any suggestions where people have visited before, places to avoid, 'must sees' & general suggestions of things to do please.
Anybody else done such a trip?
We are going to buy a luxury style motorhome and take a small car/scooter with us for zipping into cities etc.
We've started putting money aside to make it a reality and would appriciate all useful advice.
ETA: It will be a bout 3 months around europe.

If I was planning a trip like this, I would be looking as festivals and events I would like to experience and plan it around that (with time in between for general sightseeing etc.) along with any places I've always wanted to go to.
What sounds more "trip of a lifetime":
"We went to Munich, Venice and A.N Other city they were all pretty"
or
"We spent 5 days at Oktoberfest, a week in Venice for the Venice Carnival and watched the Champions League Final between Team 1 and Team 2 in A.N Other City"

I would if i was with a bunch of lads, but it's with the wife. 2 of the 3 things you mentioned hold no interest for her. What sounds more "trip of a lifetime":

This is good advice, but there is something to be said for popping into places just for the sake of it. Rome and Monaco would make that part of the list for me.Have a look and see what is on in Prague when you're thinking about going, and to make it kind of "Cultural" try Auschwitz. I still go cold thinking about my trip there, 15 years on.

If it was me, I would make as few plans as possible, and just head off, doing each day as we saw fit. Never been a fan of holiday plans!
true, but we want to have a rough idea of an itinery. Stuff to look forward to so we don't get back and realise we have missed something amazing. We want to pre-schedule countries etc.

Lol. I wasn't suggesting you do exactly those 3 things just that would be the process I'd follow.Cannes for the Film Festival, Rio for the carnival, a Fight Night in Vegas, Philadelphia International Flower Show, Venezuela International Theatre Festival

Remember the Diceman? Why not do something similar, and record it? We want to pre-schedule countries etc.

Diceman? No? Whats this?
You have a dice, and get a random stranger to throw the dice, and depending on what it lands on, that's where you go, and repeat ad infinitum, or until you run out of money and have to go home. You ask people in the area where to go, and get a list that way.Godzuki said:
Ah, I thought you meant the book too.1: Train to France
2: Fly to Barcelona
3: Drive to Amsterdam
4: Rape the neighbour
5: Rape the neighbour
6: Rape the neighbour
