Guys,

Not sure where to go on hols this yr, just want somewhere nice that isn't going to cost the world and away from chavs, so when this arrived in my inbox this morning it looked perfect

http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national-deal?nlp=&...

Notice the 1000euro (almost) charge for buying it during peak time, so I wouldnt be going then

Can anyone tell me why this is a bad idea? I can't see any, but skeptical because it is groupon. Distance from faro airport is 30miles so shouldn't cost the world to get there. Flights should be about the same as the holiday accom (£150 each)

Thanks in advance, even better, suggest somewhere better for us!

Just returned from the Algarve today! We saw this offer arrive this morning and it was definitely interesting.

One thing of note - this is a cliff top location, and it doesn't look like there's a beach nearby!

We loved the food and drink, and the prices are still keen for the Eurozone. Flights to Faro are plentiful and you can shop around for good prices. Car hire at Faro is keen also - we used 'Master Kings' and the service wasn't what you get with the big boys (there is no desk in the airport, only a hut in the carpark), but we had a very new and decent car!

Weather in the Algarve over the last few weeks has been iffy - if the weather here is good, it might be worse in Portugal wink

Thanks for reply

One thing I noticed with the deal...free bus to beach....not sure if it would be a pain or not but looks like a decent resort!

Define 'us'?

Good friends own a b&b/Algarvian style guesthouse near Burgau (45 mins from Faro) and rooms cost from circa £300/week. Very private/NO chavs, 10 minute walk from the beach (or 2 mins if driving). Stayed there last year and going again in August smile

By the time you pay for a taxi to/from the airport, a car for the week isn't much more. Always great to get out and about rather than just sitting on 1 beach (IMHO). I know the area well(mostly the Western Algarve) if you do book and want some pointers. smile

Unleaded was an eye-watering €1.65 per litre last week. The motorway along the Algarve is due to be tolled soon...

Just got back from Luz. Appeared Chav free. Great food and keen prices - Hire a car and explore beaches, national park and Alentjo area. Recommended - Burgau has been mentioned here - that looked lovely too.

Is it me or are they considerably less miserable people than the Spanish hehe ???

Much so. I've been visiting Burgau/Luz for nigh on 30 years, always found the locals very friendly.
