I've heard a couple of things recently which have made my chin itch.
Now, before I start out, I don't claim to be some scholar of the English language, or even to be able to compete with the in-house grammar and speeling police of PH... That said, it still makes me wonder when I hear people trying to be all erudite and wordy, but getting it wrong.
I'm sure the resident scholars would be able to match, if not better my experiences, so check out the examples below and add to them if you can be arsed.

1. Step foot on... instead of set foot on...
2. A steep learning curb... not a curve?
3. That email must have got lost in the ethos... Ether..?

Basically, a common saying or phrase, which is mis-heard and then wrongly repeated by someone trying to sound clever.

Anyone?

Oh that reminds me... I can't be asked.. or I can't be arsed... which is the original?

Over to you.

It's a good thing you didn't name any escaped goats or this thread might get ugly.

Try living in Australia where it seems some convicts fked their sayings up and they are now widely accepted.

Arrgh! My flat mate says 'can't be asked'! It really gets my goat when he says that. I have always heard and said arsed whether it is the original or not. Can't be asked just sound wrong to me.

Really? People don't use the word specific very often but quite a few that I hear say pacific. It grates quite a lot.
I need to get a life, I know.
