Not a rant really but I always get p!ssed off when i get cashback in a shop and the assistant on the till signs the receipt to say she or he has given me my money. Doesn't make sense to me - my internal auditor says that I should sign to say i've received it...
I'm not going to take the money and refuse to sign easily and they could very easily sign the receipt and not hand over the money. The conversation would never go well then, "you didn't give me my money" "yes i did" "prove it" "i've signed the receipt..."

Good point, badly made.

1/10, trivial, lacks swearing.

Yeah if that's a rant it is pretty st.

Anyway, they used to let you sign the receipts a little while back, then for some reason they now sign it...

I don't get it, either.

I was a store manager when cashback was introduced - the 'launch' procedure was to hand over the cash and get the customer to initial the store copy of the receipt.

I don't know how this has become the cashier initialing the receipt.

Do they actually sign it with their own signature? Or just do an illegible squiggle that could be anything?

So there you go, Mr. Customer has signed it. It'll never be checked - so long as they actually have given the correct cash out of course.

Therefore the cash balance would be higher than what the till roll says should be in the drawer on the reconciliation slip. i.e "up". It's only down if you've overchanged somebody or have sticky fingers.

i did say it wasn't a rant jut expressing my frustration.
Yeah, i think that was my point - the signing is surely to prevent the money leaving the till but not making it all the way to the customer... and the most obvious reason for that would be the assistant pocketing it...
