Ok, heres the scenario.

Your partner is standing directly in front of you. They say you have a hair on your cheek and point to their left cheek. Do you rub

(a) your right cheek (ie, as per looking in a mirror)
(b) your left cheek, because they pointed to 'their' left cheek?

Just curious. Will explain why in a minute.

I've found people will automatically rub the cheek as if it was mirrored from you.

Noticed this as well, they always choose the wrong one.

Aye, i've always assumed the 'mirror' scenario.

My wife and her family do the left cheek / left cheek thing. Everyone else i know does the mirror thing.

My family have always done the same deal, if you showed me your right cheek I'd expect it to be my right cheek that's gone awry!

My left cheek. Although it may be something to do with the fact that I'm left-handed.

By the same token - if you drive a car, raise your hand. What hand do you raise? I've noticed that right-handed folk predominantly raise their right hand, whereas lefites use their left.

What has that to do with driving a car? you will find people will predominantly raise their preferred hand. The only exception would be if you asked me to do it whilst driving, I would raise my left, as I am used to removing this hand from the stearing wheel to change gear.

Quick check on two colleagues. Different responses for both.

I went for the left cheek.

I would now rub my right cheek but only because having rubbed my left cheek in the past, I have realised the other people were treating it like a 'mirror'.

So which way do I vote??

Actually, why do people do this? Why wouldn't someone say 'You've got something on your left/right cheek'?

Surely it's to indicate exactly where it is on your face?

If it was the cheek of her bottom I would rub my thighs.

Yeah, but people should point and speak at the same time. hehe

In other news, comedy millinery sells well in the Vatican.
