I do not know if this is true or not. Could well be an urban lagend, but is a precautionary tale at least.

Apparently a little old lady from Oxfordshire has been sued for the sum of £36,000 because an unsupervised trick or treating child failed to tell her he was allergic to nuts. He had a mild reaction and was kept in hospital for one night as a precaution.

The little old lady in question is a Falklands War widow, who had worked hard to raise her two children alone. Sadly she has now sold her home to cover the legal fees and payment.

If you allow your children to go out begging this Halloween. DO NOT let them go unsupervised. If they are allergic to ANYTHING make sure the person whos home you are visiting is made aware before any sweets or treats are handed out.

Personally I think parents should ring the door bell or knock and have to sign a "we will not sue you if our children get sick" contract before they are allowed any sweets. Just to cover our backs eh? wink

Sounds like a lot of tosh.

It's not the womans fault anyway. It's the kids fault for not checking what their eating.

As soon as you read that bit you know it's nonsense surely!? Classic "tug at the heartstrings" urban legend fodder for the masses. biggrin

Sounds like an urban myth, or US story converted to the UK....

If it was in the US, I'd believe it...

She didn't happen to take a cup of tea up to her grandson once, and walk in on him furiously masturbating with headphones on did she?

I expect she found an old lady sat in the back of her parked car who pleaded with her to be taken to hospital, only it turned out, after tricking her to get out of the car, that there was a bag with an axe hidden in the back because the old lady was really a serial killer in disguise too.

Or she put her RV on cruise control and went to make a cup of tea and successfully sued the RV company when it crashed. smile

She should have claimed it was a 'trick' and the little kid was asking for it.

It's not even on snopes.

The guy secretly handing out poisoned treats is though.
