I think perhaps that at Lunchtime it might be an idea to take that colleague to the local war memorial and show them.
There will be one nearby, almost every village and town in the country has one.
There's a very good article here talking about the few villages that don't have one. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15671943

He said it with complete sincerity and did apologise when I told him.
After spending 6 years in the forces and spending a lot of cold, damp 11th of Novembers in various town squares and city centres respecting our fallen it does grind me a bit to find out that there more and more people becoming ignorant to the sacrifices made by our ancestors.

How ever old he is how can you get to that age without having heard of 11th November's significance? Since this happened at a place of work the guy must have some grey matter. I'm sure plenty of kids who hang around the swings all day in council estates won't have a clue either - but this person has a job!
Failing recognising the silence for what it is I can't see why Michael Jackson would be your first thought either. Maybe I'm the odd one...

He is blonde actually! Hes a nice guy, just a bit...unconscious. His face dropped when I told him.
Interesting to think how long it will be before society stops remebering the great war as we now dont remember the Peninsular campaign or Waterloo etc etc. There has never been the widespread public support for the forces that we have now. (Apart from government!)
