This has probably already been raised but where do they get the cheek. I don't do Facebook or twitter or any other 'social network' so why do they think I'd be stupid enough to click on these?

The 'friend request' - I don't think I want to have any friends who I would 'like to meet' from a random internet ad..... wink

Damn it, know that you've called me friend I'll be seeing the ads now hehe

I think it's a random add, probably lonely people will see that and think the internet has created a friend for them they'll click the link which tells them if they pay $5.95 a month they can get access to the "profiles of hundreds of woman in your area", said person will sign up to look for Jane and then get hooked on the site even when they up the fee to $10.95 after a few months... or so I've heard whistle

I agree, I think it's a shame that they prey on sad, lonely, friendless folk with ads like these, you have my sympathy, OP wink

I thought one of the first rules of advertising was to target your demographic effectively. Why are they advertising on PH?

I think th trick, old boy is for one to not know any commoners at all. That way, you'll have no friends "in common"

(that is what those who have fallen on hard times are known as, right??)
