Phrases you hear that make perfect sense at the time, but you never expect to hear again; ever.

Just got through security at Edinburgh airport, to be met with a [powerfully built ] piper in full highland dress coming back out. One of the security folks lets him out of the 'wheelchair' door with 'Wis that you pipin' in the pandas?'. Reponse of 'Aye' suggests he was.

Kind of surreal, and just made me laugh....

and for folks that aren't aware, a pair of pandas arrived on the FedEx 'panda express' this afternoon at Edi. But given the plane is at the cargo terminal I've no idea why the piper was coming out the passenger entrance...

I don't know anything about the zoo finances but I would have thought it must make business sense?
Especially if they get cubs out of it,

They are hoping the cost will be covered by extra visitors

6 grand a week per panda plus the cost of looking after them.

It'll take a lot of extra visitors to pay for that.

I bet the Chinese are pissing themselves over this deal, especially with Salmond making out it's a sign of the special relationship between Scotland and China. Yep, its special alright

If it's anything like the deal the National Zoo here in DC has with the Chinese then all offspring belong to China. The cub born here was sent to China last year to howls of protest from some of the locals who felt he was American and should remain here...!

Last time I went with kiddies to the zoo cost a small fortune. They would only need a few extra families and be set!

Could be right I suppose, Edi zoo are predicting an extra 1 million visitors per yer for these pandas.

In hindsight it could end well for them after all.

bet the zoo get two same sex pandas and they didn't get the contract sorted for a male and a female one.
