My wheel and tyre buying frenzy has continued. I've just won an auction for 4 x Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow 19" tyres for our Cayenne. The tyres are located in Germany. Although advertised as collection only, the vendor is happy to have a courier collect them.

I know I can get them back on a pallet, but I was wondering if it would be cheaper just to get the tyres labelled and shipped individually without a pallet. I don't think the vendor will wrap the tyres but I assume tyres without wheels are pretty robust unpackaged.

Has anyone done this? Did the tyres arrive unscathed? If so, can you recommend a good value, reliable courier?

On the subject of couriers, does anyone have a rough idea of the weight of a 255 55 19 tyre, and also a 19" cayenne wheel fitted with 275 45 19 tyres. I need to arrange a collection for both and I've absolutely no idea what they will weigh and most online quotes require a weight.

Thanks in advance!

I just bought a set of four tyres, on rims, from a Germany eBay seller last week. They charged 50 euro and they arrived two working days later with UPS. They were individually wrapped with bubble wrap and cardboard secured with thick tape, and were totally unscathed. This seemed like a very good deal to me considering the size and weight (these were a 18" set for a 7 series)

That's a fantastic price. Did the vendor organise it or did you? Do you know if the vendor did the wrapping or did the courier? I'm guessing from the listing and my limited understanding of German, he's not going to be up for wrapping them!

You could always offer him extra to wrap them securely.

The seller organised the shipping and prepared the goods - to be fair though they seemed like a 'wheel/tyre specialist' so no doubt knew what they were doing and almost certainly had a volume shipping arrangement with UPS... rather than a one time seller / member of the public. I thought the price was fantastic too... I expected to pay over 100 euro...

If you do speak to UPS or similar, I would be interested to hear what they quote...

Who did you use to ship the tyres? 60€ is about half my pallet quote.

My best price up to now is £90 plus Shiply fees. I'm working on about 13kg per tyre.
