How ridiculous an idea is containerising waste and then pushing it over the edge into an active volcano?

I am quite prepared for ridicule!

Isn't that just effectively burning it and therefore releasing the gases into our atmosphere and basically not a green way of waste disposal at all? lol.

Why would it be dangerous, surely anything thrown in would be instantly incinerated!

what could be dangerous about going anywhere near an active volcano?

I expect that the temperatures in an active volcano would effectively vaporise any harmful elements!

It would probably carbonise the waste and merge it with the lava, but I can conceive of no safe way to approach the rim of an erupting volcano on a regular, commercially viable basis.

We have the next best thing... high temperature incinerators

How odd I was thinking exactly this just the other day! I wondered if you chucked a load of radioactive waste down there would it still be radioactive or would it be destroyed/sucked into the mantle? If it erupted would you end up with radioactive lava and surely that would make a great plot for some rubbish B-movie?

It would probably be vapourised/fragmented and spewed back out into the atmosphere.

Remember a volcano is only there because of immense pressure a massive upwelling of lava via a fault... it isn't in a hurry to go back deep into the mantle.

edit: vapourising means the radioactivity is still there, it's just in smaller, more energise bits.

Like CockWomble on a night out, he's still there, just excited and dancing very quickly, he hasn't gone away.

Trebuchets.

Problem solved re hurling 44ft containers of waste into the gaping maw of fiery doom.

Can anyone photoshop this?

My "artists impression" of an old Beko spin dryer getting the volcanic treatment

We could hide it in the PistonHeads server room and use the fabled PistonHeads search to look for it.

* POOF! *

Where'd it go??

Haven't the locals got enough on their plate when a volcano erupts, what with tonnes of ash and stones and rocks and pyroclastic flows, without having the extra hassle of fridges, old hoovers, mattresses and christ knows what falling on them from the sky.
