Silly questions that don't deserve their own thread!

you know those little things that you ponder in life that in the scheme of things are not at all important, but you are just curious.
I'll start with:
why do some pound coins not register with pay and display machines and drop through?
and as a follow up...
Why do they often 'start to work' after you have rubbed them up and down the casing of the machine a couple of times?
Guess what i have done today

Coin acceptors nowadays check lots of different things when you insert a coin - weight, diameter, thickness, etc etc.
I don't know why rubbing them etc changes the fact it'll accept them though. Maybe something to do with temperature/conductivity/etc.
Oh, and there are millions of fake £1 coins in circulation

I find it highly amusing that cashiers check £50 notes but not £5 or £10 notes especially as I have seen quite a few fake ones but never a fake fifty. I don't know why rubbing them etc changes the fact it'll accept them though. Maybe something to do with temperature/conductivity/etc.

I was astounded when I received a fake £50 note from the Halifax about ten years ago; it wasn't even the right colour. how on earth it was still in their system was beyond me.HBFS said:
If you have a photo or video that proves something (E.g, someone punching another person unprovoked.) that you captured on an ordinary device, can this act as evidence in court?
Or would it have to be an approved device such as CCTV camera, police helmet/ car camera etc?
Yes and no, respectively.Or would it have to be an approved device such as CCTV camera, police helmet/ car camera etc?
