Just how powerful is PistonHeads?

I was wondering if the whole of PH could get a song back into the UK top ten. If everyone purchased a certain track (download or other means), where would it end up?
If anyone is the least bit interested in doing this, my track would be Red light spells danger by Billy Ocean. It would have to be over a single week, yet to be determined, depending on the response.

With the size of the user base it is possible, when you consider the number of sales actually required to get a single ino the charts these days. Although its success would depend on how many people actually take part, say for example if PH has a user base of 100,000 regular users and only 10% pick up the idea (if you are lucky) then it isn't going to go anywhere.

And, realistically, 10% of PH will have bought something they didn't want in the first place.

I am certain that, used responsibly, the internet could be very effective as a mass expression of the concerns of individuals. The obvious cases such as Sarah's law spring to mind.

I am not actually advocating this: but I do think it will begin to happen.

I find the serious discussions on PH far more genuinely informative and far less pushing a line as is so often the case with the media. It is IMO simply a better and much more inclusive discussion.

I think the OP has a real chance of success with this idea.

The marketing of a song in such a way as to guarantee chart topping success is an interesting point to start. Simon Cowell would be onto this opportunity in half a millisecond.

It was just more a case of satisfaction. Your suggestion is good though. If you start a .gov petition, how many signatures do you have to get before it is debated in parliament?

Didn't Simon Cowell just suffer this exact fate due to an internet campaign that was used to get Rage Against The Machine to xmas number one just to stop the x-factor kareoke winner, sorry I mean artiste, getting a number one?
