3 times today I have had various companies/organisations phoning me to discuss things and asking me for all my information as a "security check" What really irks me is how do I know they are who they say they are? I am on the telephone preference service but these are people I deal with, bank, Sky, BT, etc. I just felt I was jumping through hoops when it was them who phoned me! Rant over thanks...

I had that from my bank. Asked her for the 3rd digit in her password before I would reveal mine.

Ended up phoning them back on their main number and getting put through to the person who called me.

I always refuse such requests.

The third digit in password is the correct approach.

This must be very risky given the number of scammers about.

Ring back to an identified number if you really want the conversation.

There are so many idiots on the make nowadays.

I see no other way to protect personal security

I don't trust anyone on the phone and tell them so,if there's a problem then I will ring them, knowing that I am speaking to the right person.

Usually they are prepared to prove that they are who they say they are, letting you ask them specifics about your account etc.

I normally ask for this before I give anything out to them.

I refused to do it a few months ago, ended up persuading the woman on the phone to tell me why she was calling me by going round and round in a circle;

"Is there anything wrong with my account?"
"Well, no not really"
"Well then why are you phoning me?"
"I just need you to tell me your details and then I can answer that."
"But you said there's nothing wrong with my account."
"That is correct."
"Then what is the reason for this call?"
"Can you confirm your details before I explain please."

Eventually she told me that they wanted to know if I was interested in upgrading my savings account rolleyes Honestly she must have been on the phone with me for 10 minutes, I should only have to give my details if the answer had been "yes", since my answer was "no" then it was 10 minutes she wasted for nothing.

I always refuse them.. a certain organisation got remarkably annoying to the point when they ask me for my D.O.B I request that they pass security first. First question is I ask for their date of birth - one of them actually gave me a date once so I decided to escalate it by asking their "favourite sexual position" next hehe

They really haven't thought it through. Thank fk they aren't doing anything important like, for instance, managing millions of pounds of other people's money.

Don't give out information unless and until they have provided you with some information first.

You might be shocked to learn that there are people out there who scam you and need this information to do it........

I had this the other day. Guy asked for my date of birth so I refused. So he asks for any 2 numbers from my date of birth. So I said 19, which narrowed it down to everyone on the planet over 12 but under 112. He was happy with that!!!

I had the same - they phone my mobile - so unless it's been stolen they know who I am.

They could be anyone.

So never mind MY security details - what are yours ?
