Ok, am more that likely going to get flamed, but why is it that we have some excellent threads on here, then all of a sudden, someone with nothing useful to add starts picking up on peoples spelling and grammer?
Just wonder if these people are frustrated school teachers, or just frustrated in general?

Oh deer u should of used spell check b4 posting! Just wonder if these people are frustrated school teachers, or just frustrated in general?

It does seem rather pathetic. This is the only place I've seen it on the internet. It's a car forum, not f
king Sesame Street. Not everyone can spell every word properly and use the correct grammar and it shouldn't be expected of everyone. I'm not sure why it is so important to some people here.

It's grammar, not grammer :P
I have to agree though, many threads are ruined by the spelling and grammar police. No point making a thread about it though, just ignore them and get on with it.
I agree. They tend to be people with nothing to say on the matter, so have to point out petty mistakes to take part. Best ignored.I have to agree though, many threads are ruined by the spelling and grammar police. No point making a thread about it though, just ignore them and get on with it.
On another forum I frequent, that's rather more global than this one, someone (that had English as at least a second language) asked if people could make more effort to be grammatically correct and spell correctly as it helped them understand and improve their English.
To be fair, there were occasions were some of the younger element did appear to be using a different version of English
but it did make me think about how I post.
Apologies for inevitable typos and poor grammar

Why do some people think that a vital skill such as spelling is unimportant? If a red wiggly line comes up underneath your text, it's most likely wrong. It's not rocket science FFS.
I agree spelling is important. It's important on a CV, it's important if you are a journalist etc. It is not important on a car forum as long as the author tries their best. Text speak on the other hand is another matter.ExChrispy Porker said:
Language evolves, if it didn't we'd all sound like Chaucer. I suppose it's just evolving a bit too fast for some at the moment.
I'm not convinced by the "evolving" argument. Certainly, the language has evolved such that "sick" can mean "good" and that "proper" means "really". But spelling m... Oh, I really don't give a s
t enough. As you were.

The trouble is that the language is evolving the way a lot of us don't want it to. If you take licence now spelt mainly with an 'S', it really pisses me off but now I just ignore it when I see it written as 'License'. How long will it be before this and other misspelt words are actually acknowledged as correct? When I were a lad I was taught to spell show (as in show you something) with an E 'shew' but that seems to have changed a long time ago, shows how old I am.
