It's only in recent months that I've spent more time reading pistonheads. But I've noticed that there is something rather annoying about the clientel: most threads that run (more so in the general gassing than lounge etc) consist of dozens of people giving their opinions on the original thread content, and yet rarely respond to other posters or views. So it consists of loads of people giving their own opinions, even if it blindly apes what someone has already said; and also no-one really responds to many other valid points brought up by other posters, or their opinions.

It reminds me of

-all oblivious of each other.

eg on the threads about bmws being nicked, there are dozens of posters suggesting the same old same old (I know!- they should make a obd port lock / cover / alarm / why don't they relocate it / they should change the software! ad infinitum)

(cue somone trawling through my post history to 'catch me out').

Am I wrong or am I wrong?

I think it depends on the size of the sub-forum ... General Gassing is accessed by many and as a result, people will just post their experiences in regards to the OP. In some cases threads grow so quickly it's a pain to have to look through multiple pages to see if someone has left a similar comment.

Smaller forums, such as the Watch forum, are different. If someone has answered the OP's question, someone else may add an experience or add additional information, but there is much less repetition.

I can't say I have ever considered two people having the same opinion on a subject and voicing that opinion as a problem.

BTW, anyone having a similar opinion to my own is banned from posting it in this thread.

I can't reply to a thread without reading all or most of it first.

It really irritates me when people do, especially when it's the millionth posting of an hilarious PH joke. It's like the following thought process happens:

>moron sees thread<

>slooowly clicks<

"What should I do about wife's sister?"

>doesn't bother reading further<

>thinks<

>thinks<

>lightbulb!<

"I'll get fking loads of roffles if I say something funny!"

>clicks reply<

"Pics or it didn't happen. Or custard hehe alternatively, kick her in the sponge..."

>and the masterstroke<

"HTH"

>sits back satisfied<

"I am an actual comic genius. I'm certain nobody else will have posted this and it will truly earn me acceptance, whatever that means. Now to sit back and count the roffles and wait for flemke to just actually give me his F1 for being so fking funny"

>masturbates<

That's the biggest problem as I see it.

I find the biggest problem are the special in-house wannabe 'celebs', who try so painfully hard to scratch out a distinct PH-legend online persona on the forums, by either making themselves out to be an intellectual god /driving god/sex god, whilst simultaneously trying to appear to be above it all, as if they are somehow doing everyone a favour by gracing us with their lofty presence. Awfully sad. The meme thread, which was unfortunately closed, was the best example of this.

Sadder still was those that feed the wannabe's egos.

Don't worry Isaac, I am the same. I also have a knack for killing threads stone dead. I clearly have nothing interesting to say or am funny in any way (you look, nothing will be posted after this!)

Life must be incredibly difficult, given the sheer frustration that virtual forum posters cause over the Internet.

I don't see any real problems with PH on the whole, it takes allsorts to make a community from smart people to smart arses.
I think you just have to go with the flow, at least this place has enough mods to keep it under control when it gets out of hand.

pretty spot on tbh, I stay away from posting on other sections much, it always ends with the same boring lot telling you their way, very little questioning from the majority who could actually try to understand others perspective, not all posters, but most.

another one linked I think, is posting something helpful for someone who has asked for help with that specific thing & they completely ignore or dont thank, before I just deleted my helpful post, now I dont bother much. (though I did this morning)

luckily that ilk of person seems to have stayed away from my main thread, so all's good smile

weirdly though, there are over 200 people reading my thread yet very few comment which I find a little strange, still, the ones that do are very helpful & I'm always thankful & try to respond to every post smile

but back to your point hehe yes, a very ignorant posting culture on PH.
