Trouser (waist) sizes vs reality

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, or indeed if it's been the case for many years, but for a while now i've been wearing 32" jeans. I buy them because that's the size that fits me. I was almost tending towards a 30" a few months back, but i've put a few pounds on and i'm comfortably in 32s again, belt required, just.
Recently i had cause to actually measure my waist with a tape measure. 33 and a bit. I have several pairs of 34" jeans and they hang off me/fall down as if they are five sizes too big. The actual circumference of the supposed 34" troooosers is all between 36 and 38 inches....
Can't these people count, or wot, innit?

I bought some new jeans a few years ago, 34" waist - fitted like a glove. QUite pleased because I know I was really pushing 36" waist. Turns out I'd bought something called hipsters but was wearing them like Simon Cowell, whoever he is. They should be slung around my hips and are in actual fact about 38" 'circumference' or hip size.

Yep, 32" are too tight and 34" hang off me like an old spud sack. Managed to find some Levis on Amazon, on special, that were 33" waist. Just right.Fishtigua said:

Yes Levis are good like that. They do odd sizes including leg sizes. I'm a 33 in Levis but I find They are too exspensive in this country can get them stupidly cheap in the US.fatpasty said:

In Florida I buy at childrens outlets as there is no Sales Tax on kids clothing. Ralph Lauren for next to nothing. Happy days.

I have some 32's that are massive and I have some that I can hardly do up.

Hood jeans (motorbike jeans so not really day to day wear!) tell you how they size them -
if I tell you how we measure the waist this might help you to compare them with a pair of your own. Firstly we lay the jeans flat and do up the stud; we then measure across the waist. Our size 34 would measure 17inches across, double this up, gives you the 34 inch waist.
Why can't they all do that?! It's hard enough finding 32 long jeans without wondering about will they fit too!

i went round almost all the shops in liverpool one,tried most designer and high street brands and couldnt find anything to fit.
oddly levis 32/32 fit perfectly but were a bit too long, 32/30 surely will be perfect? nope too tight everywhere else and wouldnt button up! same style and waist size but the shorter ones wouldnt fit.
ended up with 32 regular firetraps

Same here. My work trousers are a 34" waist and fit just right. Assuming I was a 34" waist, I bought a couple of pairs of jeans from Next in a 34". They must be nearer a 36", as they're practically hanging off me.I have a 34" waist.

I don't think that 44 is an appropriate age to do the "jeans hanging down showing your pants" thing that seems popular with the kids. Especially as I don't wear pants.

Women's clothes* are notorious for variations in the same sizes between shops and even in the same shop.*I learned this from women and the media. That is the full extent of my knowledge of women's clothes.

If they fit in the waist, have them adjusted for length. We have a great shop in town which will do this for £7, and completely reproduce the bottom seam of a pair of jeans, rather than just make them look as if your mum did them.I have short legs and a long body, I'm 5' 10" but really need a 31.5" trouser.
