Kentucky Halfords
Discussion
After a visit to Halfrauds last week and a visit to Ken from Tucky tonight I can only draw one conclusion. The staff are from the same planet - not this one by the way.
Totally lacking in supervision, ideas, help, or an ear thats capable of interpreting a sound and actually making sense of it.
They should share the same premises so you can get some car wash, clean your car outside, whilst waiting for a food order that will not contain what you specifically asked for. Come to think of it a a triple shop share with Curry electrics wouldnt go a miss,
Who owns these shops ? wake up get a grip and sort the job out!

There is an easy way around this problem, do not patronise these shops. Kentucky is rubbish that I would find hard to describe as food unlike your local chippy, Halfords are no better or cheaper than your local motor factor who will actually know what you want and Currys will just sell or talk you into buying anythig you dont want and all have one thing in common they re run mostly by kids who just dont give a s
t. Take your money elsewhere
t. Take your money elsewhereHalfords staff are great!
Trying to buy brake discs:
"Have you got brake discs for a 1999 Micra?"
"Yes sir, number 645 and we have 1 in stock."
"1? Why would you only have 1?"
"Yes, is that not enough sir?"
I take a look at this single disc
"That's not the right part anyway"
"The book says it is so it must be"
"The wheels are smaller than this disc, this disc is about 14 inches"
"Not sure sir, but the book says it so it must be"
Repeat similar conversation about an indicator bulb.
"Don't care what the book says, I don't have offset pins as can be seen by the item in my hand"
"Your car must be the facelift version"
"They haven't done a facelift of it yet"
"Yes, I'm sure they have"
"No. They just haven't, so give me the other bulb that you claim won't fit please"
Similar for wiper blades
"Do you have these with a double set that doesn't include the rear wiper?"
"No, but your car probably needs a new rear wiper anyway"
"It doesn't have a rear wiper so it certainly doesn't need one, it's an MX5"
"If it doesn't fit you can take it back"
"I can't possibly fit a rear wiper to it, it's a soft top!"
"We offer a fitting service if you are having difficulty"
Repeat the above many times over with various parts. I've no idea why I ever go into Halfords, I think it just cheers me up and gives me a feeling of superiority.

Hang on a second there. I take umbrage with that statement. What do they put in that secret blend of herbs and spices?
I reckon a nice blend of saliva, pubes and semen
It's an addictive chemical that makes you crave it fortnightly!!! (From "So I married an axe murderer".
)One of my cars does not have flat wipers and must have traditional blades.
This was what the Halfords man insisted when I turned up in the pouring rain one dark and cold Friday night just before closing. I had a long trip ahead and forgot the shocking state of the blades.. They needed changing there and then.
Got my own back by taking up the fitting offer. In the carpark, in the rain with the man insisting my car did not have flat blades because the book said so.
He removed the old flat bades dismissing this error by telling me it was because the car was an import. Of course it was an import, Mazda don't make cars in the UK.
To be fair, the traditional blades are better than the flat ones.

They get the same s
t pay, the same rubbish training and the same lack of job security. I'm shocked that they put the same amount of care and attention into their work.
I don't understand that attitude. I did as good a job as I could when I was working in a supermarket on £1.40 an hour, and do the same now that I'm not. Why would you do the job poorly just because it pays badly?

I certainly see where you lot are going wrong: you're actually engaging in conversation with the staff.
I actually had to converse with one of them last week when trying to buy a pair registration plates. They informed me that they couldn't make them up for me unless I had a passport. I wanted plates, not a f
king holiday. My dad used to run his own car repair business. As tools tended to be still of the 'buy once and keep for life' quality and thus available only from tool specialists (no B&Q tat or Halfords), my mother used to ask him if he needed any tools and then buy them for his xmas present
When Halfords opened a shop in the town she thought she'd hit the jackpot, but upon asking the old fella if there was anything he needed he smirked and told her 'a left-hand thread screwdriver'.
We're still not sure what's worse; the fact that the old dear didn't twig, or that it took three of Halfords finest to work out that it was a gag...

Some people in halfords are idiots, but some are quite good. Ive had several helpful ones, although when I produced a trade card at the till before being asked would I like them to fit a headlamp bulb she did get a rather sarcastic reply...
Also, with aforesaid tradecard they are as cheap as anywhere else in the area. The tools are excellent anyway for the price you pay.
A bit like anything else, they have their use - they are open longer than most motorfactors, and when I need a part at 3pm on a Sunday and they are the only place open I'll quite happily use them. If I want advice on something there are better places to go where Im prepared to pay more in return for some help.

Are you saying that the quality of the food in a typical chip shop (lets say a "proper" chip shop, not a Chinese & Chippie) is actually any good or better than kentucky?Decent fish and chips is a rarity at most chip shops, it's normally a tiny piece of fish, or horribly dry. But what if you dont like fish? you're left with some saw-dust and floor sweepings sausages, burgers and some utterly f
king horrible pies (I shudder to think what goes into a "pukka" pie). The chips are invariably s
t, normally massively undercooked, I've not had decent "chunky chips" outside of a restaurant in years.I'm not a massive KFC fan, but I'd rather that than one of the 8% pork 92% other stuff, sausages from a chippie!
