Any idea why people 'watch' a classified item on eBay? I can understand watching an auction to keep an eye on the price but it seems pointless on a classified, surely if you're interested then just get in touch

40 watchers of a car ive got for sale but not one has got in touch

I watch all sorts .

It's easier than searching 1000s of items all over again to find it even if you just want

to find what it sold for or if it's still for sale etcsmile

I sometimes watch if something's at a comically optimistic price to see if the seller's ever going to visit planet earth and lower it, or start it at 99p. tongue out

i watch it as a reminder i know i'll need an item in the future and its a great price so y not watch and see if the seller has something similar when i'm ready to buy

but then for a car? i wouldnt do that

maybe its just so they dont struggle to find you again.

I do it to short list cars I'm interested in so it's easy to go back and find/compare them later

Same here; if I see a car I might be interested in, it goes on 'watch' while I research the model, check values, look at alternatives etc. Makes no difference whether it's auction or classified.

No different from the old days of flicking through AutoTrader or E&M, and highlighting 'possibles'.

I've a couple of dozen items on my watch list, most of which are buy-it-now.
More like reminders.

I like to do this sometimes when I am looking to buy a particular model of car and I am researching values etc

or the flip side when I am looking to sell and want to see what cars are actually 'selling' for as opposed to the asking price

I have been and still am watching a couple of cars just like the one I am thinking of selling- to see if it sells, how much, how many bids etc to gauge interest.

The one I am watching now seems very over priced and is the same year and model as mine so I hope he sells it! The last two I watched were re listed several times so I reckon mine will stay in my garage for the summer to be honest.

So yes I watch, cars both classified and auctions.

I do it to bookmark certain car dealers, and for research purposes. I know roughly what my next car will be, but want to look at various options over the next month or two. Then I'll look at going for a drive around a few places that seem to have the closest match to what I'm after..

Its crazy isnt it, i also dont get the people who watch a buy it now or near offer and only make a offer in the last 5 min i want to shake them as they dont seem to understand that sniping at the last moment only works on auctions.
