This is tricky, because unless you wasted the last 40 years you'll already have done or bought anything car related that anyone else could ever be reasonably expected to get you as a present.

So I'd go for a day at zombie boot camp.

Or do a bike CBT (I did mine as a birthday treat).

I once bought a track day and a 325i for a bunch of mates to use and it cost me less than £200 after including transport, petrol and tyres. It was a pretty epic day out.

What sort of stuff have you done? What do you like? Give us a clue - this is more vague than a "what car?" thread.

It's always worth checking the profile before posting that.

He's had some.

FFS. Why is 'MX5' everyone's stock answer to questions?

Just asking as I never quite understood the appeal of the MX5. Sacrelige on PH I know but I just don't get it.

Weekend away for the Le Mans 24hr (if you've not been/don't go every year anyway)
That's what I'm planning for mine, having never been before (and not likely to get to go in the next couple of years frown)

Flying lesson (plane, glider, helicopter?)

Get everyone (or rich Uncle) to chip in for the full works Jonathan Palmer day

Advanced driving techniques course

Without telling the OH, get everyone else in on a holiday/city-break/weekend away for the two of you and have a few days of real, romantic couple time

Special watch

Handmade suit and some shirts

Handmade shoes

Add four and six together and make the city-break Hong Kong

Paddock Passes to a GP (Silverstone/Spa with the roadtrip and a buddy maybe?)

Another vote for Palmersport day at Bedford. Not cheap (circa 600-800/day) but get to drive lots of different things without silly rev limits you get at most tracks

Or else some sort of supercar hire for the weekend

I went to New york for my 40th birthday, flew out the day before.

Morning of my birthday stood on viewing area on empire state building, walked round new york all day and finished on top of the rock, then had something to eat in Time square.

Shame I was by myself.

Still sounds better than mine, which was purposefully low key. I didn't even take the day off work.

No, and it's just not me - I know I'd love the speed, but I would either, kill myself, lose my licence, or some other plank would knock me off!

My 40th is coming up in 18 months time and I am already starting to think about what I might like / like to do. Some of my current ideas are:

  • Nice watch
  • Trip to Norway to watch the Northern Lights (definitely on my bucket list)
  • 2 or 3 week road trip doing a "worlds scariest roads" kind of thing
  • Drive a nice car along the Stelvio / Transfagarasan (sp?) highway
  • Do my CBT

hehe

Right, so in answer to a few of the points, we are already doing a "surprise" skiing holiday, which I am not supposed to know about, which my wonderful wife has organised with friends (I have an idea who, but not in total).

So this is just the gift(s) for me!

Done karting (quite a lot). Done a JP day, but certainly would not complain at doing another.

Driving course etc a good idea, had also thought of racing license.

Garage is as big as it can be, and only just built - we had to shift 100 tonnes of earth to get a 3 bay in, so thats that for now!!

Keep 'em coming.
