Price for timber

1650 meters of 200mm by 38mm at £1800 per meter cubed?

I said £22,572 but that's the wrong answer apparently confused

Its metres wink
1650x0.2x0.038 = 12.54 cubic metres

I wouldn't claim to be a maths buff, but...

0.2 x 0.038 x 1650 x 1800 = £22,572

So whatever you're doing wrong, I'm doing wrong as well.

I cut and pasted the sum so the Americanism isn't mine (but I should have changed it) redface

How do you know you are 'wrong'. Can you buy a 0.54?

Is it 13 x £1800 so £23400?

The maths is right but is timber really £1800 per cubic metre? That sounds like a lot.

Maybe but I was just asked to work out the figs as given!

My cousin is at college and has just texted for help with this sum - I've answered it and his 'mentor' has told him I've got the wrong answer......

Are you are getting mixed up between metres cubed and cubic metres?

Your initial answer is correct, unless the question has been given to you wrong. Are there any constraints or assumptions that have not been given?

If someone thinks he is being clever by setting a question he thinks should be read as (£1800/m)^3 then he is a fool. No one in their right mind would expect it to mean that, expecially as the answer would be something like £73 billion.

Is it not priced per square meter?

Just sayin, because that's how you buy most things.

That's 413 Boards 4metres long 200mm wide and 38mm thick.

I've just checked an online supplier and come up with £28,579.60 for yellow pine
Douglas Fir is nearly 30% cheaper, but only available in 194mm wide boards

WTF are you building?

...the same! 1 metre cubed is the same a 1 cubic metre (but only in the case of 1 No)!! Does sound expensive, as works out at over £40 per 3m length.

38 x 200 is usually a nominal size i.e. a sawn section. The finished (planed) size would be 34/35 x 194/195.

Whatever, it still looks very expensive.
