So Wednesday was an interesting day...

I arrive home from at 5:45pm with my mrs in the bath with some mild period pains, I see if shes ok and start cooking dinner for the evening. At 6:15pm she comes downstairs in absolute agony, struggling to stand or talk so we call the hospital. At 6:45 we arrive at hospital and by 7pm we are in our own room with my mrs being examined. Then the moment we had been waiting for for what seems like forever, finally arrived. This little fella decided to make an appearance!

Say hello to Oliver Jacob Morris, born at 8:34pm weighing a healthy 7lb 6oz. First child, about 3 hours in labour with midwifes being shocked as my mrs was fully dilated by time we got into hospital.
But all was not well, Oliver was not getting any colour, was not crying and struggling to breath with his chest working hard. So before we know it, theres a doctor, senior midwife and 4 other midwifes huddled round Oliver trying to figure out whats wrong. They give him some oxygen but its not helping so whisk him off to intensive care. 2 hours pass without us hearing anything while they try and stablise him. Finally we get told we can come see him and go find him in an incubator, hooked up to a monitor with a drip and various leads on him.

We both stay with him till 1:30am then decide we need to rest to be strong for him. So I go home and my mrs goes to the maternity ward to rest. Neither of us sleep at all, worrying about whats gonna happen.
The next morning we head back to intensive care to find him doing much much better. His breathing's no longer labored, hes gone a nice pink colour and hes needing no extra oxygen at all. He's already had his first x ray which shows either a mild infection on his left lung or a build up of fluid. So the doctor prescribes antibiotics to be save and tell us he will be in hospital for a week, maybe 2 weeks. Later that morning he gets transferred to special care, coming out the incubator and into a cot. We can finally hold him and interact with Oliver. We spend the day with him and he starts feeding. By the evening, the midwife is encouraging breast feeding and showing no signs of his recent trauma. At 9pm I leave him and my partner and return home to eat and get some rest, returning to work this morning. Decided to go back to work while he's in hospital and have time off when we can bring him home.
So this morning, my mrs messages me saying he's doing fantastic, feeding normally through the night with blood tests showing nothing out the ordinary. Doesn't mean he's in the all clear, still be in hospital on his antibiotics until all further blood tests are done, but all the signs are good. So this morning he's enjoying a nice lie in.

All seems a bit surreal at the moment, but being a dad and watching your first child being born, life changing experience.

Lol @ the car suggestions, good suggestions as well bar the Volvo! But I'm fortunate enough to have a company car which is a mk4.5 Mondeo, plenty big enough and safe enough for a family! Even slightly entertaining when I'm on my own down a country lane.
In my defence the only car I've ever driven that had a built-in child seat was an 850R, and that was bought just for a weekend blast to the 'ring and back.currybum said:
3 hours ...you lucky lucky b
d!
Mrs CB started Monday morning and finished on Thursday....80 hours of consent stress and no sleep is not the ideal preparation for dealing with a new born...
Jesus! That sounds horrific!! We were prepared for a long labour but got extremely lucky, especially for the first!

Make the most of it!!Congratulations though to the both of you - it's one of those experiences that nobody can describe to you what it's going to be like. Such a range of emotions in a short period of time.
We had a similar experience to yourself - our son was 6 weeks early & turned up out of the blue after a very late night mad dash to the hospital! He's 5 now & such good fun - you'll have a ball!
Congrats, you will never forget that day.
I posted about my interesting Wednesday last week which involved the girl sat next to me on a flight from Dallas to Philly, spilling her red wine on my lap and then vigurously trying to mop it up with napkins
I wont forber that Wednesday either.
