Self storage facilities - anyone ever used one?
Discussion
I've just been looking at self storage facilities, but all the websites require you to get an online quote - and I'm reluctant to fill out online forms just for a quote.
They're more likely to get my business by being open about their pricing but that's another story...
Has anyone ever used these? There's Big Yellow and Ready Steady Store etc.
I'm only wanting about 25sq feet - so if anyone has an idea of costs - I would be grateful to know!
TIA.

Best to pay a visit. They'll show you the varying sized units they have, they always look smaller than you think! Some units might be on the 1st or 2nd floor, so depending on the sizes of the stuff you're storing, could be a pain in the lift.
Check their access times. Some are open business hours and some will be 24 hour.

We've sued a couple in the past
ours were 24 hour access which you entered with a code.
key thing is accessibility - some of these places are a lot harder to manouvre in than others.
depending on what you are storing you may also want a place that allows a van to back right onto the entrance door.

I found a local place and they offered small storage containers for about 100pcm.
OK, for non perishable items (I stored a clio trackday car in mine) and were mainly used by local builders etc to store tools/stock.
The price of the brick buildings were much more expensive. However, the big name storage companies were vastly expensive in comparision.

I am currently renting a 25sq ft unit for £37 a month, which also insures the contents for up to £1000. I have pin code access 7 days a week, but is limited to working hours only (which is fine by me). I live in a 1 bedroom flat, which I am out growing so will rent the space for the next year or so until I get a bigger place.
I had all my possessions in one for a couple of months. Slightly disturbing when you can get everything you own into 75sq foot
One thing I will say is that they all play off each other for price. (my local two are Big Yellow and SafeStore). They both matched each other, then went further when pushed. Bring your own padlock, as the ones they sell you for extra commission are crappy things, and overpriced :-)
