Can anyone point me to somewhere on-line where they store the historical data re each weather station? Is it possible to work out how many wet days there were in Apr 2012 say and compare it to Apr 2011 etc?

Cheers, TX.

Great site, doesn't seem to go back more than a few months though. I could do with 10 years of historical data ideally.

Try http://gis.ncdc.noaa.gov/map/viewer/#app=cdo

The Global Summary of the Day layer brings up stations in the UK. Then it's just a case of finding the nearest one with a complete record of data for the period you want.

I don't think "days of rainfall" is counted by raw data - usually only the volume of rainfall is measured on a hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/annual basis. But with daily rainfall data it is straightforward enough to use Excel to mark days as true if precipitation = 0 or false if it exceeds 0 then just total up how many days in each month are false to arrive at the number of days of rainfall in a given month for your purposes.
