After a chat with a mate on the same subject what night clubs did you frequent as a you devient? Are they still there? What are they now? This is obviously aimed at older PHers but the youngsters can't keep us updated.

Cascades, Telford, purpose built nightclub, was very trendy in its day, it had a feeder pub next to it called Quenchers, we wore a suit and tie as the dress code was so strict, very good night spot but inevitably standerds slipped and it was closed for years.
Fate unknown.

Park lane Shrewsbury, near the Darwin centre I think, many happy memories of lovely local girls and getting beaten up by local boys.
Fate unknown.

The old hall, egremont, I could pull for ten men in here. Sticky carpets type place.
Fate unknown.

Sandpiper, Redcar, went here a few times in the eighties.
Fate unknown.

Xl, Fiveways Birmingham, many happy times here, first stop the Unspoilt by progress the into XL, I was a 21 year old soldier then at the height of my powers.
Fate unknown.

The Rhythm station, Aldershot. Was kicked out of her a few times, I think it becames Cheeks nightclub.

Owls, Aldershot. Very rough place, I had a very high success rate here.
Fate unknown.

Frames, Church Crookham, maneged to get barred from this one.
Fate unknown.

Route 66/Chaos, Swindon, had a very high success rate in here, two nightclubs one building, loved these two, closed knocked sown for redevelopment.

Brunel rooms, Swindon, is it still there with its revolving bar?
Fate unknown.

Mission, Swindon, in oldtown, had a few good night's here.
Fate unknown.

Zanzibar, Newcastle under Lyme, loved this one, met my wife in here, it was extensively refurbished which combined with new opening hours killed it, its been shut ten years but the buildings still there.

That's it, I've been in others but these were the ones I frequented regular and had the most fun in, I we.t to a couple of the real trendy clubs in Birmingham and London but the smaller ones that didn't take themselves to serious were my favorites.
Anyone remember these clubs? anyone tell me what they are now?

Didn't route 66 become "Destiny and Desire" (or colloquially, desperate and divorced)?

Brunel is still there, now called Liquid/Envy IIRC. I've not been in for 10 years.

Mission has gone. Building is still there, but no club. A subway and (briefly) a gentlemans club took part of the building.

For any one in Cornwall or has visited in the last 40 years, I'll mention Club International in Falmouth - probably still has the same carpet.

Park lane and libertys in Shrewsbury I believe are currently closed. Hourly permanently.

The door staff we keen on jointly picking on the biggest guy in the place. Ended up killing an old friend.

Said old friend was a gentle giant and was out taking one of his many charitable groups out for a night out after the dragon boat races.

Good riddance.

It was dreadful as Caddy's and as ClubXL.

One I used to frequent was The Empire on Morecambe seafront, next to FrontierLand, thankfully closed down (both!).
Another was Brooks in Dalton Square, Lancaster, which was an old cinema converted to a nightclub and now converted again into a kids soft-play centre. I reckon the current incarnation is the best so far thumbup

Used to go there briefly before discovering the acid techno free party scene, must have been around 1994 or so. A few good techno and drum & bass nights there. smile

When I was a student, I used to frequent Bog Island and The Swamp in Bath. Cadillacs was a little too up-market for us hehe

Whenever I'm in Sydney, I always seem to end up here http://merivale.com.au/ivy with its $130 bottles of Veuve, unisex loos and god knows what else. Always a good night to be had thumbup

I'd heard of RS growing up. I didn't know it became Cheeks. Never went Cheeks either to be fair but heard of it being fine assuming you didn't get beaten up by a squadie.

The first nightclub I ever went to. I remember a couple of the older black kids from college were going to take me. I was only 16 at the time but they promised my mum they'd look after me and would have me back home by 12.30. I then learnt that most black people don't leave their house till gone midnight cue much begging for an extended curfew the next time.

Thinking back now I must have told my mum a white lie because I can't think why she would have let me go to a club knowing I was under age.

Everytime I've been there its been massively boring. It is/was quite a big venue so I imagine unless its packed it must seem a bit meh.

Others from my youth.

Bojangles - Guildford
The default club when we wanted to go out and hear some rap but didn't have money to travel to London.

The Hermitage - Hitchin
They used to have a monthly rnb night there and it was always packed with people from all over. pretty good success rate lol.

SW1 - Victoria - London
Nice rnb club. Thinking back now I don't ever remember seeing any violence. Very good success rate but the club was exceptionally dark so if you did pull on the dance floor it was always well advised to offer said lady a drink at the bar just to confirm she wasn't a bush pig. Lol.

The Temple - Seven Sister - London
Saturday nights Tim Westwood and Chris Goldfinger. Absolutely loved this club. I've seen, jay Z, Busta Rhymes, Queen Pen, Lil Kim and loads more. The plan was always to meet a girl and SW1's on a friday and then arrange to meet her and her mates at The Temple on saturday. The only regret is that we left a little too late to go see The Lox and after seeing a queue go from the club pretty much back down to Bruce Grove we turned around and went home.

Capital Club - Leicester Sq - London
Sunday nights. Cheap, good music and lots of girls.

I've only been clubbing for the past 6 years so most are still around, the big one:

Amadeous - Strood (Chava-dangerous/Staba-dangerous/Slaga-dangerous) - That place was full of Chav's (I think it's closed now but not too sure). I only went a few times as a fresh faced 18 year old and could swear I was the oldest there by a good few years....
